twinkeee
P.S. I came across a photo of Dorothy (Janis) King ,of her later on in life. It does not look anything like her at all...
FredCDobbs
>The only 'clue' in the photo was her smile. Plus her wavy hair style, plus my clue of "silent". That gives you plenty of information. I found the Bela Lugosi photo with just three keywords. You could have found that photo of Dorothy with just 2 keywords.
twinkeee
What were the '3 key words ' for BL.........
twinkeee
Here I thought you found BL because you recoginised him. Whenever I try a Google search, I find, more often then not to come up with a lot of info that does not pertain to what I am looking for. I prefer to go by recognition. FredCDobbs
Well sure, if you recognize the person, but no one recognized Bela Lugosi. I didn't either, so I had to figure it out with keywords. The one of Delores Del Rio a few weeks ago, I finally did recognize her. The big clue was that she didn't look like herself. I tried all sorts of keywords, related to the era and the costumes, but nothing worked. Finally I masked out her hair and looked for something familiar in her face, and I went through a long mental list of names, and then I finally saw her in my mind. twinkeee
I guess I have been playing this all wrong. Like you said, "finally saw her in my mind". That is how it usually ends up at isn't, in your mind.

FredCDobbs
>P.S. ...in other words, after all the research and time spend, it boils down to one's memory (or lack there of)... Well, if we've never seen the person or the photo ever before, it doesn't have much to do with memory. I never had a memory of what Lugosi looked like when he was in the European theater and not yet in movies. He changed so much in just a few years. And even though I've seen many of his old theater photos, I still don't recognize him in a lot of ones I haven't seen. If I had to go only on memory, I would get very many of them. twinkeee
When you posted the pic the other day of the group shot with Chuck Berry...for the life of me, I do not know how I recognized him instantly...the pic was grainy, he is way before my time & hardly know of him, it just seems strange. The same thing is true with Who'd this?....I just assumed that you either know the person or you don't...research to me seems soo tedious. With Lugosi, I remember when you ID'd him before, so when you Id'd him this time, I naturally assumed you recognized him. But you're right, he does look different in most of his pic's and I can see where it would be hard to remember him.
FredCDobbs
Your brain might automatically recognize someone like Chuck Berry, or maybe it recognized him on the cover of the albums the kids were holding. This can quickly happen without you being aware of it happening. I do a lot of my searches automatically, and after I post the name, I couldn't tell you how I did it. For example, I don't remember how I found the photo of Delores del Rio in the same movie as the posted picture. I don't remember how I did it. I can't find it now. I think that is weird. I think my Google search ability comes from my years of doing library research, and going through a lot of indexes of old books, looking for names and keywords. A book index search is similar to a Google search.

twinkeee
I did not see his pic on the covers the kids were holding, in fact I did not see the album covers until AFTER I posted his name, only when I took a second look at the pic. What amazes me is how you have such great memory and knowledge when it comes to movies,in particular, when it comes to lighting, cameras and all that tecnical stuff ! When you asked me to ID a camera in a pic you had posted, I thought "What, are you kidding me"?

I don't know! But I will... One thing I'll say is that the actor's grave is just a few miles away from where I live and I've visited him occasionally to pay my respects (he's one of my favorite actors!) FredCDobbs
By the way, Kidd, your quick identification of Anton Walbrook yesterday was amazing. I figured the guy to be in a French type film, in the 1930s, but I couldn't quite identify him.
