Ha! You would never guess how I figured out that the photo is of Mae West.

Think, think, think..... your photo of Clara Bow was flipped, left to right. Both flipped and mis-identified.

So, I searched for other flipped photos of Clara Bow, and I found her identified a couple of times as Mae West. So I looked for Mae West photos and I found some of the flipped photos of Clara Bow. THEREFORE, I surmised that the lady in question MUST BE Mae West, with other people making the same error you did about her identity. Once a photo error is posted on the internet, Google often picks it up and spreads the error to other people. A good searcher will take those errors into consideration. :)

Now, the question is, is the Mae West photo mis-identified too?? :)

Howard Hill. I don't know why Flynn is working on the arrow. The story about Hill shooting the arrow that split the other arrow in Robin Hood has been refuted by Buster Wiles, the stuntman friend of Flynn, who said they tried it that way but it didn't photograph well, so they rigged a wire to the target and Buster shot the arrow down the wire for the split, which worked nicely on camera.

Oh, and Hill was the world champion archer who worked on the film.

I didn't mean that you should have taken those errors into consideration.

I meant that after we all realized the error, I took that into consideration to track down the ID of the lady in your photo, the one which you say the photo of Clara Bow was mixed in with. :) I would never lecture you on how you should conduct research. :)

Here is a documentary about Hill which TCM has aired a few times. It includes the famous Robin Hood split arrow scene, which is about 1:04 into this video.

That scene of the split arrow is one of the most amazing and iconic scenes in film history. I saw the film in a theater when I was a kid in the early 1950s. They must have made a fortune off of that film by re-releasing it over and over again. It is one of the best Technicolor films ever made.

Pardon me for deviating from the continuation of the 1961 additions to the Disneyland Hotel. Since yesterday was the 53rd anniversary of the groundbreaking at the Hotel, I just had to post some information on that.

Fifty-three years ago (March 18, 1955), ground was broken for the Disneyland Hotel. Jack Wrather, *Bonita Granville* and Anaheim Mayor Charles Pearson, using a specially made, three-handled shovel, dug the first spade of dirt on the grounds for the new, $10,000 Disneyland Hotel. The Hotel was slated to open at the same time as Disneyland in mid-July. Due to labor and union strikes, the Hotel would not open until October 5th, 1955. I have some other great items on the groundbreaking and will upload them shortly. What is interesting is, the official opening of the Hotel wasn't until August, 1956. I'll cover that subject on a future post.
