Oh, that face, that fabulous face. Whose is it?

I just checked with IMDB and now I know why I remember her so much.

She was actually herself on more TV shows in the 1950s and 60s than she was in movies in the 1930s and 40s. So, I grew up knowing her name and her voice, but I've only seen 2 of her films, Faithless and Lifeboat. Lifeboat was sometimes shown on TV back in the 1950s. And she did a lot of TV interview shows in the 1950s. In fact, I think she became more famous on TV than she had been in the movies.

She did a lot of radio shows too, in the 1940s and 50s.

I think maybe she was more famous on radio in the 1940s than she was in films. She made only 8 sound films between 1931 and 1945. She made 5 silent films between 1918 and 1928. But I heard her on radio and in TV interview shows all during the 1950s.

Here she is on radio in 1942:

Well, not that you need me anymore, but yes, it's Tallulah - albeit a very young Tallulah. :)

The first time I ever saw her had to have been her appearance on The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour. I was a Lucy fan well before I started to get into movies (about age 14). First film exposure was Lifeboat, but I've since seen a few of her early 30s vehicles.

As I mentioned, Ms. Bankhead was a Southerner and a Scarlett O'Hara contender at one point (but then again, what pre-menopausal actress of the period wasn't!). And she did quite a bit of stagework.

What I think of most is her debauchery-laced love life and famous wit: "{font:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif}My father warned me about men and booze, but he never mentioned a word about women and cocaine." Oh, boy . . . :0
