slaytonf
I wasn't clear enough. I meant the actor smoking the cigar. He was a prominent character actor known for his laconic and acerbic comments on the action of the movie. Oh, I think I've said too much.
gagman66
I don't know why I have not been following this thread. I could be contributing allot here. I had a real puzzler I planned to post, but I need to go back and re-size the photo first. It is gigantic.
MilesArcher
Is that Ned Sparks with the cigar? I remember him from "Gold Diggers Of 1933". He always had a cigar planted into the side of his mouth in that picture.
slaytonf
You get a point! It is indeed Ned Sparks.

gagman66
Try this one. A popular forgotten Silent Star who was pretty big in the late Teen's and early 20's. Here she is playing the legendary Olympian Goddess of Love. *Aphrodite of 1922*

Hibi
The picture looks to be from the 40s so it cant be Pickford. Janis Paige?
MilesArcher
Musicalnovelty guessd my picture. It's Ruth Terry. She acted and sang in many "B' pictures in the forties, especially westerns, at Republic Studios. I don't know who's picture it is that gagman posted. Hibi
Oh, sorry. I thought that answer was to the picture before that. It didnt look too much like Janis, but that was all I could think of.......
FredCDobbs
I think that might be Barbara LaMarr
FredCDobbs
Change that to Dorothy Dalton.
twinkeee
Now Fred, how did you know that? I spend hours going over pics, kept running over Barbara LaMarr's pic , but ruled her out because the caption read "The Girl Who Is Too Beautiful",. She didn't look "Too Beautiful" to me, although she did have a 'lazy eye'' and that was what I kept looking for,a gal with a lazy eye. Good for you though! FredCDobbs
I found your source photos. (LOL) http://forums.tcm.com/message.jspa?messageID=8568185 http://fan.tcm.com/_Dorothy-Dalton-as-Aphrodite-Goddess-of-Love-1921/photo/15155507/66470.html http://fan.tcm.com/_Dorothy-Dalton-Aphrodite/photo/15155581/66470.html?enlarge=true But IMDB doesn't list her as being a film by that title or character, either in 1921 or 22: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0198272/ According to Wiki: "Dalton's stage career included performances as Chrysis in Aphrodite by Morris Gest in 1920" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorothy_Dalton
FredCDobbs
It wasn't Barbara, it was Dorothy, and it wasn't a movie, it was a Broadway stage play. I meant to say, Dorothy Dalton had TWO SEPARATE careers, one on stage and the other on film. Stay tuned for further updates regarding my research on this subject. See this: http://www.ibdb.com/person.php?id=80134 This is apparently from the stage play of 1920, in which she played Chrysis in in the play "Aphrodite". FredCDobbs
This one has been a lot of fun. I found the original photo on Google, and I said "Oh Boy!", but I clicked on the link and it brought me back to this thread. LOL Google often captures photos from this message board and posts them on the internet.
twinkeee
I wondered how you found the pic on the board considering it was posted a longtime ago. Did not know you found it on Google of course, it must have been quite a surprise for you when you came across it. Funny how things can turn out.
