Ill have to check for updates in the future I picked up Betrayed, Beast of the City, Big House and Crisis ... Beast of the City is a great classic ! It couldve been good enough for a gangsters set or something..

ziggyelman
I have to say the price seemed awfully steep for plain jane releases, but I can now see that it made some business sense to see how well they sold at this price. They can always drop their prices if the movies didn't sell, a lot harder to increase the price if they felt it was too low. Seems like they are selling pretty well though. Seems like more RKO movies in the past few updates than anyone else...did they mention they were going to do that anywhere???

edgeciff
Several more titles I want including PARTY GIRL and FOUR DAUGHTERS. I was quite annoyed when I purchased LUXURY LINER and THOUSANDS CHEER that the trailer was not include. The laserdiscs did include the trailer and for the $20 price they should have been included. I thought the Tarzan's would be included in a box set! Again, at these prices I am being more select. I still have the 15% off from the survey WB took last month. HollywoodGolightly
They really should offer some kind of discount/incentive for those of us who'd like to buy a bunch of titles but have been putting it off ... waiting to see if they'll offer some such discount. If the prices don't go down, or they don't offer a sale or something, I'll just see about renting them from classicflix.
filmlover
Edgecliff, great news and I think they meant it just for you! I got an email from WB today and in it they announced you can get all 5 Lex Barker Tarzans as a set for $49.95: http://www.wbshop.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-WB-Site/default/Product-Show?pid=WATARZAN&adid=WACNTEml
filmlover
Over at The Digital Bits, Barrie Maxwell has gathered together reviews of a number of the Archive titles. Thought you might like to see: http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/barriemaxwell/maxwell050409.html Also, keep an eye on dvdbeaver.com. They have been reviewing the titles on a one by one basis. Seem fairly good on the whole so far, but The Big House only got a fair review today: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/new.htm
HollywoodGolightly
WHV has added one more title to the WAC: Soldier in the Rain (1963), with Jackie Gleason and Steve McQueen. http://www.wbshop.com/Soldier-In-The-Rain-%20EST-MOD/1000102760,default,pd.html This brings up the WAC total to 192. I'll edit that into the complete list later on.
filmlover
I'm feeling frustrated. WB didn't put my full apartment number on the package and so though I order it back in April, it didn't get delivered on Thursday by UPS. I called UPS Thursday night and corrected the appartment number problem and UPS said it would be delivered on Friday. Friday, UPS's website showed it was scanned and should have been on the truck and delivered. It wasn't. I called UPS and they said due to MOther's Day, they were probably overwhelmed and couldn't deliver it. Rescheduled delivery for today (Monday). A little while ago, they called and said they can't find the package and for me to contact WB to get them to start tracking it. I called WB, explained the situation, and they said they would have to start their search. If it turns out after their investigation that the package truly is missing, then they will reissue it to me, whenever that will be. And then it should arrive about 8-10 days after that. Geez! First WB screws up, then UPS.

HollywoodGolightly
Looks like tcm.com is about to start selling the titles on the WAC collection, starting 5/21. Their price will apparently be $17.99, so depending on shipping costs and/or coupons from the WB store, it might be a bit cheaper to order through tcm.com. edgeciff
$17.99 at TCM is no bargain. They want a ridiculous $4.50 postage for one disc. That's pretty outrageous. That will bring the disc up to $22.49. There are no bargains on the TCM website. Wish DDD will offer the titles. I will probably stick to the Archives site and wait for specials and I am sure they should have more. edgeciff
Its been free postage if you spend $60 or more. I don't know how much for 1 item. So far I have not paid any postage for the archives collection.
HollywoodGolightly
Just came across this at classicflix... If there's ever a "Where's that been" movie, it's *It's Love I'm After* (1937). If you've seen it, you've probably wondered "Where's that been" and why it hasn't been released on DVD. Well wait no more as Warner has finally released it from their archives for all to enjoy at the touch of a button. Now listed at WBShop, this highly underrated screwball comedy stars Leslie Howard, Bette Davis, Olivia de Havilland, Eric Blore and is directed by Archie Mayo. It is now available for rent, but it may be a couple of weeks before the title is available for shipment. SYNOPSIS: Star-struck Marcia (Olivia de Havilland) could care less that famed thespian Basil Underwood (Leslie Howard) is vain and discourteous while staying at her family's mansion. "What are manners?" she exclaims. "Little rules for little people." She doesn't know Basil is acting, playing the cad so that she will turn her attention to her devoted Henry (Patric Knowles). And as for the fiery actress (Bette Davis) who is Basil?s on-again, off-again fianc?e? She might have an unexpected role to play in this loopy charade! edgeciff
Apparently WB cut a deal with Amazon releasing several new titles that aren't available on the WB website. The titles include LOOK FOR THE SILVER LINING and THE STRAWBERRY BLONDE. Amazon is calling these exclusive, but hold your hats, they are asking an outrageous $29.95 for each disc. That is a whopping $10 more than the Archives. Apparently greed has set in. I am wondering if the WB site will be adding more titles or these will now go exclusively to Amazon or these exclusive titles will eventually find their way to the Archives. If not, bye, bye Archives. I seriously doubt if many movie buffs would be willing to pay this hiked price.
HollywoodGolightly
Ouch! Premium pricing is definitely not the way to go with these, especially if they're trying to get collectors in the habit of buying them regularly. After they've sold a few at that price, they'll have to mark them down to keep sales going, I would imagine. These two titles are supposed to be available from May 28, we'll see tomorrow if they _really_ are ammy exclusives.
edgeciff
Apparently there are several other WB Archive titles available through AMAZON including THE MALE ANIMAL and I believe they are pricing this one at $28.99. Spoke with customer service at the Archives today and they weren't aware of the Amazon exclusives. I would imagine few people would fall for these exhorbitant prices and I am hoping that WB is not going to release all future DVD to Amazon exclusively. If so, I won't be buying any more of these releases.
filmlover
That price is ridiculous. They should be looking at going down from $20, not going up. I don't see how in today's economy they can try to do that. And not even in hgh def at that price?!
edgeciff
I'm sure there are some people nutty enough to pay these prices, but I think very few, not after the original price was to be $19.95. My guess is they are just trying out this ripoff price to see how many they can sell at much higher prices. I for one am waiting for DDD big sale in June and spend my money on sale items.
