THE PERRY KING APPRECIATION THREAD

Recommended Posts

The first time I remember watching Perry King on screen he was in a short-lived adventure series called The Quest (1982). It didn't last very long but it made an impression. He turned up on Riptide soon afterward.

I also remember a night time soap he did in 2000 called Titans where he starred as Victoria Principal's ex-husband. That series also had a short run and if I recall correctly, his character was killed off after five or six episodes

It's funny, maybe strange, but, due to Perry King's extensive nudity in "Mandingo" and "A Different Story", I feel so well-acquainted with that body.

But, to be honest, all he had to do was walk toward the camera for me to be "more than interested".

Thom Bray did more than acting. He also wrote scripts for Designing Women. And for Evening Shade, among other shows.

Does anybody remember James Coco, Raquel Welch and Perry King in 1975's "The Wild Party", which was directed by James Ivory?

Reportedly, Raquel Welch was very difficult to work with - she tried to get the cinematographer, Walter Lassally, and one of the stars, Perry King, fired.

She even wanted her boyfriend at the time to replace James Ivory.

She did fire the producer, Ismail Merchant.

The Directors Guild became involved - and sent threatening letters to Raquel Welch.

The film had a difficult shoot, to say the least.

Supposedly, even today, different versions of it exist.

A director's cut was released briefly in American cinemas in 1981.

If you saw it, what version did you see?

Going out on a limb, AIP produced it.

The film turned out to be one of cinema's "great bombs".

Perry King played - memorably - a movie star, Dale Sword.

DALE SWORD??? Now there's a name! I didnt know Raquel wanted PERRY FIRED! Now I hate her! (LOL). I remember the film and its troubled history, but I never saw it (bombed bigtime so there was little time to see it, here and gone) Glad at least Perry stayed in the film!
