Summer Under The Stars 2009

Recommended Posts

Usually for big, month long events like Summer Under the Stars, they have a downloadable schedule available at least a month or two before the event happens. I'm hoping for a John Garfield Day, Audrey Hepburn (just look at my name), and even Francis the Talking Mule!

It goes without saying that TCM's annual "Summer Under the Stars" is arguably it's pinnacle month-(I personally still rate it's annual "31 Days of OSCAR" as A No. #1 though) However, does anyone already have the scoop on it as yet? I even have a couple front covers lamenated & on my own "Walls-of-Fame"

That is an AWESOME list! Realistically if about 1/3 of those stars were featured, I'd be grooving! I'd try to work Warren William in there though!

What, what, what? Have you already forgotten about the Warren William/"Perry Mason" films being shown in July? (Just givin' ya a rib.)

After having been included in SUTS last year, I wouldn't expect Laurel And Hardy to make another appearance. But with Marie Dressler having been given a day last year, any of the others listed certainly could make the line-up this August.

*"Is there still no inkling about the Summer Under The Stars schedule?"* - OneSharpDame

Nothing concrete. But you can make a few educated guesses for five Saturdays by looking at the Essentials schedule for August. And there has been an _exciting change_ to that line-up.

When the Essentials schedule for the year was first posted, *The Grapes Of Wrath* was listed for showing in November. But it has been moved to August 1st!

Here's my guesses at five SUTS based on the Essentials selections -

August 1^st^

*The Grapes Of Wrath* - Henry Fonda

August 8^th^

*The Man Who Came To Dinner* - Bette Davis

(But Ann Sheridan would be really interesting.)

August 15^th^

*An Affair To Remember* - Deborah Kerr

August 22^nd^

*The Asphalt Jungle* - Marilyn Monroe

(But a SUTS to the recently deceased James Whitmore would be fun. As would Louis Calhern.)

August 29^th^

*Lolita* - James Mason

Happy Guessing!

I don't know---An Affair to Remember could be a Cary Grant day, and that would be equally cool!

I too love the Summer Under the Stars and look forward to it every year!

Since we're putting in our requests, as it were, here are a few I'd like to see.

Well, my favorite actors are Alec Guinness and Jack Lemmon, so I really want days for both of them. My favorite actress is Angela Lansbury--can we have a day for her too?

I know it's "stars", but I'd LOVE to see some character actors in there. A day devoted to just one of these amazing character actors would make my summer: Guy Kibbee, James Gleason, Eugene Pallette, Gene Lockhart, Edward Arnold, or Roscoe Karns!

To come up with 31 would be a job for another day.
