Rebecca wasn't a suicide, but a victim of a savage murder arranged by Maxim after having found Danny and Rebecca in a compromising situation. Another of the same class would have been tolerable, but a servant! That was unforgivably crass. What would the family think?.Mrs. #2 soon cought on to this and blackmailed Maxim to the point of his having to live in the burned out ruins of Manderly, while she followed the seasons in the chicest places.
