silent film crushes

She's so beautiful. I think I'd like to see some Warner Baxter silents. He never did it for me in sound films, but I think he's a good actor. Maybe in silents I can get a better picture of him as a young man.

It kills me that The Great Gatsby is lost. I wish they would find it, or at least some reels somewhere. This one and The Way of All Flesh are the two that really get to me.

Wendy,

An irresistible photo. Poor Clara faces stiff competition from a Leggy Golden Haired Beauty who wants her man, and knows how to get Em'! This shot has me rather perplexed. Sure looks like Betty Compson in that chair? It's not Esther Ralston as this still isn't from CHILDREN OF DIVORCE. Labeled as ROUGH HOUSE ROSIE, it is probably from THREE WEEKENDS (1928). Yeah, there is a still code there, but I don't know how to use it.

Hi Metsfan . . .

That's a great portrait of Conrad Veidt in full armor, along with his army. Love the still.

Hi Gagman . . .

Of course, you know by know how much these 'Old' Lobby Cards appeal to me. They're such a 'Blast from the Past'. 'The Blind Goddess' with Esther Ralston is so Authentic looking. Not to mention 'The Shakedown' Lobby card with Barbara Kent. That is Awesome as well.

And a great job in the coloring with Clara Bow & Billie Dove. That 'Lime' color dress stands out perfectly on Clara Bow with her Red hair.

And such a Beautiful shot of Valentino. He is so handsome. I love the fact that the well dressed man, back then, always wore 'cuff links'. Is it still worn nowadays ? . . . I rarely ever see them now. Too bad !

And that's a great picture of Helene Costello & Raymond Griffith in 'Wet Paint' (1926) . . . Just Beautiful, Pink-ish Coloring . . .

And Gagman, I so LOVE that Portrait of Olive Thomas. It appears to be the cover of a Music Sheet. Am I right ? . . . Whatever it is, it cost only .25 cents. But I have to say that the Artistry Work done here is just Stupedous ! Love It !

And you always seem to select just the right coloring for any of Clara Bows pictures. She always comes across so 'Vibrant and Alive' ! Even in the picture where she appears 'down hearted' finding her rival 'slinked' across a chair with legs swinging . . .

Great Photos, Gagman !

ugaarte,

Thanks for the feedback on some ofm the recent postings. This one is really good, and I had never seen this still before. You would be hard pressed to find a more striking on screen couple. For awhile they were somewhat of an off screen couple as well., and remained very close friends.

The still code sure enough confirms it's from ROUGH HOUSE ROSIE.

musicalnovelty,

So who is the blonde that looks so much like Betty Compson? What about the still from TWO CAN PLAY, which may have actually been THREE WEEKENDS? I think I got those mixed up. Golly, somebody find ROUGH HOUSE ROSIE already! There is an event at the LOC next month where they are looking for help to identify thousands of reels of Nitrate film. Who knows what may turn up?

This is the still I thought was from TWO CAN PLAY (1926)

Hi Gagman . . .

These Clara Bow Pics are just a Delight to look at. And those intense Colors in the one titled, 'Beware, The Mystic Conjurer' are just captivating.

And those 2 portraits of Rosie and her Brolly Babes & RoughNecks, are just Adorable ! No man would want to 'tangle' with Rose & her Rough Neck gals in some dark alley . . . now would they? hee hee : )

And your other portraits with Janet Gaynor, Bebe Daniels, Dolores del Rio and Joan Crawford being held passionately by John Gilbert are so 'Grandioso'!

Great Portraits, Gagman,

Thanks for Posting !

Here's Corinne Griffith from a film I have forgotten the title of. I like this photo, but she is highly overdressed. Maybe her suitors thought so too and that is why she is all by herself. Needs to Pep it up a little.

Glad you enjoyed the still, Ugaarte! Wish I could've posted the original size because it really gives you the full impact.

Intriguing photos Jeffrey! It would be nice to see some of those films on TCM if they still exist.

Hi Gagman . . .

I agree with you too, Gagman .... I love that Portrait of Colleen Moore, 'playfully' posing in that mirror . . . she appears so 'coy' in a very SWEET way! She's Fantastic !

And I love your Portrait with a very handsome James Hall 'wooing' a somewhat 'demure and shy' Vilma Banky. Great Colors too !

And that Green Color for Corinne Griffith is so Rich looking. I love it! She does appear somewhat 'forlorn' . . . maybe she's dealing with something on her mind.

Great Colors Gagman.

Thanks for sharing.

These are 4 Glorious Portraits you have here, Gagman . . .

The Coloring on each one are just Brilliant !

Renee Adoree looks absolutely Stunning in her Burgandy Colored Sequined dress. It goes so well with her Auburn Hair and Red lips . .

And Lillian Gish is so strikenly Beautiful appearing 'pensive', posing with that urn . . . Such Beautiful Eyes, she has . . .

And a 'Heavily Beaded' Marion Davies is just plain 'SPACTACULAR' !

I love the colors of her gown . . . Pink & Mint Green. Such a Striking Profile!

And Miss Mary Pickford . . . I love the 'salmon' color of her dress. And she's without her long-curled tresses, as I'm used to seeing her. But I guess she, too, would have to move on with the changing styles.

Great Pictures Gagman.

Thanks Again !

Here's a brand new one. Yet, another still from ROUGH HOUSE ROSIE. Wow, so many different things seemed to have happen in this picture. It's a must find. Who knows, maybe some reels will turn up in June during the Packard Foundation search at the LOC? The 2nd annual Silent Film Archeology event. Let us hope so anyway. As they comb through mounds of unknown Nitrate. With any luck there will be numerous important discoveries.

This particular photo took forever to work on, and it is kind of unfinished to be honest. Gee, those Rough Necks sure had a allot of energy didn't they?

Hi Gagman . . .

Your Post of the 3 Ladies . . . Loretta, Janice and Constance . . . is just Awesome! Their Beauty really stands out. I didn't realize how Green Loretta's eyes were . . . and I love the Plum color of Jamet's jacket.''

Lupe Valez truly does have that 'dagger' look. Not someone you'd want to 'trifle' with ! But I love her white gown with golden 'sequined' straps.

And I love the 'Re-do' of Clara Bow's Pic ! Her short sassy Red Hair and Hot Pink dress really Stand out against that Teal Blue 'Plummage' behind her.

Great Posts, Gagman !
