grsshrp Posted August 19, 2004 Share Posted August 19, 2004 I agree that color can get in the way of the story. Some of the 'cinemascope' movies were just too much color. Anyone who has seen the movie Beau Gest with Gary Cooper, Robert Preston and Ray Milland will 'get' why some movies should only be done in black and white. From the story point of view, it condenses it and defines it. But visually, this movie in particular, just shimmers in b&w. The shifting sands, the desert, the heat all have a silvery magical look. I read once that Martin Scorcese could tell you which year a film was made by the smell of the chemicals used. I just go by that silvery shimmering look. Link to post Share on other sites
