JakeHolman
I can remember listening to these guys in the 80's--especially in the old style Fridays restaurants. Loved to sip a beer at the bar and wink at the working girls after a hard week of work on a Friday. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZLfjsqbx90 Jake

Hi JF, He was a very interesting man with passions and demons, as all men, but who left a legacy with Blues and Rock and Roll that is indelible. The song I posted I played over and over. I really liked it and I will re-visit his music again in the future. I promise. Here's a band from the sixties and please post any "eclectic" song or tastes you might have... JackFavell
I love the Moby Grape! I knew their name but I've never really listened to them before. This is Raymond Scott (who did a lot of themes used in Bugs Bunny cartoons), from 1963 (sounds like Brian Eno doesn't it?): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2JtSlSffeU

I really like the one with the Sea Turtles...very mellow...never knew... Moby Grape was a band that never lived up to its commercial potential. The band had bad management, bad decisions and bad luck. But what the heck. It still played some great music and not all bands make it big. And in no way does that diminish its talent and music. Here's a couple of Moby Grape's better songs. Jake

JF, I'm sure if we were to meet her we would find out she is as human as you and I but with gifts or talents that were "discovered" that allowed her to become a Hollywood star. I believe Charles Laughton had a lot to do with her exposure and career. And I'm certainly glad that happened. I once read she thought singing was her number one love and not acting. I like her voice and of course her acting. She is one of my favorite all time actresses and her roles in The Quiet Man and Rio Grande are some of my very favorites. There are nuances in those roles I don't think are readily seen by all viewers. But that is for another thread. You take care JF and keep on... Tom is a Southern boy who is typical with a hair-trigger temper. I can be that way myself at times. It's in the genes... Here's one from the Black Crowes: better than the Band? JackFavell
> {quote:title=JakeHolman wrote:}{quote} > Here's one from the Black Crowes: better than the Band? Nah, though the Black Crowes are a really good band, you know the Band is my favorite. It's funny because I am not a fan of Southern rock as a genre, but there are a few groups and songs I just love, including Tom Petty. Here are my favorites (sorry there are so many, I kept finding more that I liked): of course, The Band: Wet Willie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoE9HhyD2lw&feature=related Dr. John: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxX15ziypzs&feature=related Credence: Canned Heat: Marshall Tucker: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEOV5vWfSgI Kings of Leon: Little Feat: New Riders of the Purple Sage:
JakeHolman
JF, I agree. The Band is a better band and their rendition of The Night They Drove Ole Dixie Down is better, too but the Crowes are very good... That's some very good stuff...great music...no reason for me to post... Let's let your picks ride for a while. Jake
