cjrogan2003
In my first "clean" post, I noted how I didn't like musicals that suffer from bland numbers that weren't pop hits and haven't stood up after all these years. If you've ever seen the musical short "Swing Time in the Movies", you'll know what I'm talking about. One particular song, "Swingin' Through the Kitchen Door" is one such. Why do they write these stupid and forgettable songs that are never going to find their way onto LPs? Is it okay that the only 1930s and 1940s movies I really like are "The Adventures of Robin Hood", "The Wizard of Oz" and "Gone With the Wind"? And is it okay that I am not a fan of black and white films?

coffeedan1927
Ask yourself this question: Would you like THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD, THE WIZARD OF OZ, GONE WITH THE WIND, MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS, etc. just as much if they were filmed in black and white?
gibsongowlandfab
Are you telling me that you have been busting the chops of all these great people on the TCM boards for months on end and you don't even enjoy movies made during the "Golden Era"? gwtwbooklover
A thought provoking and good question coffeedan1927 because they worked their hearts out on those black and white films. I mean since it was in black and white the costumes were no less dramatic or beautiful and I'm sure the burning of Atlanta, the sword fights, the world's fair exhibits, and the characters of Oz would have been carried out as well as humanely possible whether it was in black or white or color. Good Question.
cjrogan2003
I like black and white, but that time period (1933-1945) is just not of my taste, mostly becuase of who the leader of the country was. BTW, do you know who Rick Astley is? I'll tell you if you don't know.
moviejoe79
Rick Astley is an R&B singer, and what the hell does that have to do with coffeedan's question? You should really open yourself up to the Black and Whites, since some of the greatest movies of all time were filmed in that way. You mean to tell me you don't like Casablanca, or Citizen Kane, or The Maltese Falcon, or The Philadelphia Story? The list could go on and on of EXCEPTIONAL movies that were filmed in Black and White.
bggalaxy
Out of curiosity, what did Roosevelt have to do with the movies of that time? And why would this bother you - he died 40 years before you were born (if you are as old as you say you are). bansi4
What on earth does FDR have to do with movies of that period? He didn't make them. cj please don't tell us that you admire Hitler! Mongo
brackenhe
He's bought into the worst our country has to offer. Blaming Democrats for all the ills of our country when there's plenty of blame (and praise) to go around. Like I said--self loathing guilty Catholic closeted homosexual. Come out, my dear CJ.
