spence
This one always bothered me BIG-TIME! *"THE GREAT: SPENCER TRACY"-(l900-l967) made his bones in the famous role of Killer Mears on stage & every night-(later he loathed the stage) Even *FORD attended his work every night for a week & *JOHN was to easy to impress either. & immediately brought him to HOLLYWOOD & then just Fox Studios also near M-G-M in Culver City-(20th Century Fox) wasn't it's title until '35. Welp, *SPENCE also hated scripts he was given, but is debut with *FORD 1930's UP THE RIVER (barely ***) STRANGELY, though when it came to casting this very dated now adaptation, NO *SPENCER TRACY? Dullard Preston Foster played Mears instead, (WHAT HAPPENED FOLKS?) As most know he did a then 2nd prison picture & a good one from 1933 at Warner Bros. "20,000 YEARS AT SING SING" & in '58 Mickey "The Mick" Rooney also portrayed Killer Mears in an ok B-poicture "Last Mile" (**1/2) I know virtually everything about *SPENCE, except & in books, etc WHY NO HIM INTHE 1930 original, please help?
