cigarjoe
We were discussing why some Classic film titles seem to have dropped off the face of the earth, mostly from rights issues on films that are well over 50 years old. They have no value except to those interested in obscurities. Who in there right mind is thinking that the value of some of these titles will increase with age once the interested public (us) are dead and buried? We should create a TCM member underground network where we inform each other via PM links where to view some of these titles that for mostly minuscule and quite probably BS reasons they are out of circulation. Keep these links among us to preserve there existence like treasures they are. 😉
LawrenceA
There were a handful of posters who used to do that. They'd group PM a few like-minded individuals whenever they's come across a long-sought obscurity on YouTube, Archive.org, or places more nebulous and exotic. A few of these posters have since disappeared for one reason or another, while others seem to have ceased searching and/or informing others. Or maybe I've just been cut out of the loop. I've tried informing others from time to time, with mixed results: some posters were grateful for the info, while others just ignored me. I, too, have ceased offering such help, but since I'm a softie I'd most likely still tell someone if I knew where a hard-to-find title may be watched. 1

Polly of the Precodes
Public statement: Some of these titles are tied up in rights hell. In other cases, the archive holding the surviving materials is bound by donor restrictions. But in most of these cases the rights-holders assume that the title is in insufficient demand that, economically, it's not worth the effort on their part to make the title available.
