mr6666
'We All Owe Al Gore An Apology': More People See Climate Change In Record Flooding "....A string of natural disasters has hit the Central U.S. in recent weeks. Tornadoes have devastated communities, tearing up trees and homes. Record rainfall has prevented countless farmers from planting crops. Rising rivers continue to flood fields, inundate homes and threaten aging levees from Iowa to Mississippi. And while none of these events can be directly attributed to climate change, extreme rains are happening more frequently in many parts of the U.S. and that trend is expected to continue as the Earth continues to warm. For many of the people living in the affected areas, the connection feels clear.......... Extreme rains and flooding events are expected to be more common and more severe in America's heartland, according to the most recent National Climate Assessment. ....... https://www.npr.org/2019/06/08/730456004/more-people-see-climate-change-in-record-floods-and-extreme-weather-will-that-me?utm_term=nprnews&utm_campaign=npr&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com

In several cases, courts have ordered agencies to enforce their own rules. ...... the Trump administration’s environmental rollbacks could significantly increase greenhouse gas emissions and lead to thousands of extra deaths from poor air quality every year, according to a recent report .... https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/climate/trump-environment-rollbacks.html
mr6666
Fact Check: Trump's environmental rhetoric versus his record President Donald Trump praised his own environmental record on Monday and attacked the Obama administration's "relentless war" on U.S. energy. But a close look at his rhetoric reveals he is taking credit for pollution reductions that have taken place under previous presidents — and undertaking an aggressive agenda of weakening air and water pollution rules. ........ A Washington Post-ABC News poll released over the weekend found that 62 percent of people disapprove of Trump's work on climate change while just 29 percent approve. Environmental advocates say the Trump administration’s track record shows his disregard for the work of the EPA, an agency he said during his campaign he would reduce to “little bits.” "You can’t cover up two years of an abysmal environmental record with one speech," Here is an examination of Trump’s most striking statements about his environmental record. ...... https://www.politico.com/story/2019/07/08/fact-check-trumps-environmental-claims-1573352

mr6666
Climate scientists drive stake through heart of skeptics' argument New research shows that the recent rise in global temperatures is unlike anything seen on Earth during the past 2,000 years. "Global warming skeptics sometimes say rising temperatures are just another naturally occurring shift in Earth’s climate, like the Medieval Warm Period of the years 800 to 1200 or the Little Ice Age, a period of cooling that spanned from roughly 1300 to 1850. But a pair of studies published Wednesday provides stark evidence that the rise in global temperatures over the past 150 years has been far more rapid and widespread than any warming period in the past 2,000 years — a finding that undercuts claims that today’s global warming isn’t necessarily the result of human activity.... Since the beginning of the 20th century, the global average temperature on Earth has risen by about 2 degrees Fahrenheit. A consensus of climate scientists pins the increase primarily on the burning of fossil fuels, which spews carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping greenhouse gases into the air. In the absence of concerted efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the United Nations says, the global average temperature could rise an additional 5.4 to 9 degrees Fahrenheit by 2100. One of the studies, published in the journal Nature, shows that the Little Ice Age and other natural fluctuations affected only limited regions of the planet at a time, making modern warming the first and only planetwide warm period in the past two millennia. The other study, published in Nature Geoscience, shows that the rate of modern warming has far outpaced changes that occurred before the rise of the industrial era...... “The global temperatures that we’re seeing now are higher than they have been in the last 2,000 years,” she said. “What we’re seeing now is uncharted territory. mr6666
Walloped by heat wave, Greenland sees massive ice melt -today The area of the Greenland ice sheet that is showing indications of melt has been growing daily, and hit a record 56.5% for this year on Wednesday, said Ruth Mottram, a climate scientist with the Danish Meteorological Institute. She says that’s expected to expand and peak on Thursday before cooler temperatures slow the pace of the melt. More than 10 billion tons (11 billion U.S. tons) of ice was lost to the oceans by surface melt on Wednesday alone, creating a net mass ice loss of some 197 billion tons (217 billion U.S. tons) from Greenland in July, she said. “It looks like the peak will be today. But the long-term forecast is for continuing warm and sunny weather in Greenland, so that means the amount of the ice loss will continue,”.......... https://apnews.com/65694195c91d4b62b275bd14a6955b4c?utm_campaign=SocialFlow&utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=AP_Europe 1
