George Conway's anti-trump Lincoln Project

Recommended Posts

Ideally, he would testify and say outright whether or not he believed Trump broke any US law (obstruction) and get that question out of the way.

As you note 'ideally';  My understanding is that Mueller is a serious man - if he wanted to say something outright I assume it would have been in the report.

But for fun,  lets assume he does say that he believes Trump broke US law:   It would still fall to House Dems to impeach Trump.    I guess it might make it a little more politically difficult for GOP Senators to vote to NOT convict Trump (but not enough to get to 2\3) and maybe cause Trump additional political damage in the 2020 election.       (but I have my doubts since based on all we already know if someone is still not a no-one-but-Trump voter,   I don't think Mueller's POV is going to flip them).

OR if Trump loses in 2020 a democrat appointed attorney general might indict him on obstruction.

It would be great if that happened,  but I don't see where that relates to Mueller testifying before Congress.

I.e. that could happen regardless and anything Mueller has to say to Congress in the coming weeks doesn't change what could happen in 2021 (as far as I can see).

That is my overall point here;  The Dems want MORE,  but even if they got what they wanted (e.g. additional proof\evidence\opinions that Trump committed crimes),   it would have no bearing on what happens to Trump during this current term since the only option Dems have is an impeachment without a conviction.

I assume your're joking here;   Yea,  some Dems believe a failed impeachment would help their PR and it would in the Dem primaries but not likely to in the general elections.

Other Dems like Pelosi are much more clued in on the bigger pictures (general election), than most of the clueless newbies like A.O.C.  (since her only major victor was against another Dem in the primaries and the seat she 'won' in the general was already a Dem seat).

George Conway slams Trump for viewing Mueller probe 'purely in terms of your own ego'

"The Russia investigation was a legitimate investigation, with a legitimate basis, into how a hostile foreign power tried to interfere with and undermine our democracy."

Conway continued, saying it was in the best interest of both Republicans and Democrats for the Russia investigation to proceed without interference.

"But because you are a malignant narcissist—a person with both narcissistic and antisocial personality disorders—you couldn’t view it that way," Conway tweeted. "Instead of complying with your oath of office, and instead of taking stock of what was in the best interests of the nation whose Constitution and laws you swore to uphold,

you viewed the matter purely in terms of your own ego: You viewed the investigation as casting doubt on what you perceive as your great election victory.".....

"Even today, despite the well-founded assessments of the intelligence community, and despite the damning evidence laid out in the Mueller report, you refuse to take what the Russians did seriously," Conway said.

He called out Trump for placing his "self-interest" above the nation's, saying it is his "greatest offense against the country, an offense that incorporates but vastly exceeds the statutory crimes you’ve committed."

"It is an offense for which you should pay with your office, regardless of whether you are ultimately brought to justice in the courts of law,"......

What is frustrating is all the Trump talking heads saying, "No Collusion, no obstruction. Fake News! Witch Hunt!  Game over, let's move on!"  Why can't the hosts/interviewers counter with something similar to George Conway's succinct rationale here.  Instead they let those stories go unchallenged with these lies.

We don’t need to see more of the Mueller report. It’s clear Trump obstructed justice, @walterdellinger writes

.@walterdellinger nails it: “Mueller’s ... investigation fully established not merely crimes, but the betrayal of the president’s office: a failure to defend the country’s electoral system from foreign attack and acts of interference with justice that shred the rule of law.”

“This report makes the unquestionable case that the president regularly and audaciously violated his oath and committed the most serious high crimes and misdemeanors. ... Congress doesn’t need to read more to announce what is obvious ....”

Trump asserts that sources in the media are fake. In the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s, he would call reporters and try to fake them out by pretending to be a media spokesman named “John Miller” or “John Barron” who would then talk up a real estate mogul named Trump

Nope—they never respond with substance or truth. They and the White House instead attack motives, change the subject, or lie, or do some or all of these things.
