LawrenceA
What actors and actresses are your favorites by decade? They should be judged by their output decade by decade specifically. Meaning, when considering the 1930's, Cary Grant should only be considered for the films that he made from the 1930's, and not from subsequent decades. If you feel someone is your favorite for more than one decade, then list them for each decade. Also, it's fine if you wish to skip some decades that you are less familiar with. I'm sure we've all done this before a hundred times, but I'm bored, and there's not much happening. 1920's = Lon Chaney & Lillian Gish 1930's = James Cagney & Myrna Loy 1940's = Humphrey Bogart & Ingrid Bergman 1950's = Marlon Brando & Deborah Kerr 1960's = Sean Connery & Jane Fonda 1970's = Jack Nicholson & Diane Keaton 1980's = Robert De Niro & Meryl Streep 1990's = Gary Oldman & Emma Thompson 2000's = Daniel Day-Lewis & Cate Blanchett 2010's = Joaquin Phoenix & Amy Adams
speedracer5
I'll admit that I don't have the biggest knowledge of the 1920s films, I haven't seen very many: 20s- Charlie Chaplin & Louise Brooks* *-I really have no female star to choose. I haven't seen very many films of the 1920s and haven't actually seen any of Brooks' films, but do have Pandora's Box recorded. I chose Brooks because she seems pretty cool. 30s- Errol Flynn & Myrna Loy 40s- Errol Flynn & Barbara Stanwyck 50s- Gene Kelly & Lucille Ball 60s- Jack Lemmon & Hayley Mills 70s- Robert Redford & Sally Field 80s- John Candy & Molly Ringwald 90s- Robin Williams & Alicia Silverstone 00s- Ewan McGregor & Keira Knightley 10s- John C. Reilly & Cate Blanchett

I like that you mention Pam Grier, Mickey Rourke, and Rosario Dawson. I like all 3 quite a bit. Denzel Washington would be in my top 3 or 4 faves from the 90's, too.

Some actors like Denzel, really had some hot streaks where they made some very interesting films.

For me, it was toughest settling on the 50's, 60's, and 70's actresses. I was also surprised at how tough it was settling on either for the 1990's, a decade that I know the films of quite thoroughly. GGGGerald
My actual choice for 1950's was Hitchcock. But, that wasn't going to work. Then I didn't want to list actors in their lesser decades. I couldn't place Cary Grant anywhere and I'm a fan of his. It was a fun exercise though.

CinemaInternational
One thing i will say is that this experient really does have to make one think on their toes. Sometimes there were people who missed out for me (say Michelle Pfeiffer for example in the 80s/90s, who was on a true roll from 1988 through 1993) because their best work kind of strattled two decades and wasn't really there in the first half of the one decade or the latter half of the other
