C.Bogle
Or a blue's based trio, something along those lines. They broke up just about the time heavy metal became a popular term I believe. Then along came Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and others. Eric did change his hair style quite often. There is a funny video of them with Eric's Afro and he looks quite cheeky too, Lord Clapton of Afro upon the Scalp.
C.Bogle
That's a pretty good knock off of Marlene's voice and tone. I have a CD of Marlene's greatest hits somewhere, including See What the Boys in the Backroom Will Have. I couldn't place that Beatles' song immediately, but it's from the US album The Beatles' Second Album, damn how did they come up with these clever titles. I haven't listened to that one in years. C.Bogle
From the outer reaches of the Funkosphere, aboard the mighty Mothership, on a mission to eradicate the musical blahs, and to spread the word that Funk is its own reward, Parliament with Flashlight, back in the days when George had monochrome hair. misswonderly3
Funk-a DELL-ic ! Parliament really knew how to legislate. I have some concerns about that flashlight, though. Here's an even earlier trip down funkery lane, Sly and the Family Stone, getting down to some serious grooves on the Andy Williams show. Andy Williams + Sly Stone...now that's funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTLfHo9QAnQ by the way, tracey, I'd never heard that version of "I Call Your Name". I never even knew the Mamas and the Papas covered it. They got kind of a country thing going with it, didn't they?
C.Bogle
Yes, the flashlight could be...symbolic...of the spiritual light that shines through the worldly darkness. And Sir Nose, looks like something out of A Clockwork Orange. Andy Williams and Sly, perhaps even stranger than that Bing Crosby David Bowie duet on The Little Drummer Boy. It's hip on the Mothership.
coolrob1955
Over in Jake's thread there's a clip of the late Ronnie Dawson. One of my listening pleasures is the Rhino CD set - Hot Rods And Custom Classics - which features Ronnie's only 'Hit' the great (rockabilly/doowop?) 'Action Packed'. The rest of this CD set Features great American 'Car' songs from the 1940's to the 1980's. There's really not a bad track in this whole collection. A few selections from the CD. *Phranc - '64 Ford* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8TnGx0BK94 *Chuck Berry - No Money Down* This is not the version from the CD but Suzy has nicer legs than John Hyatt so I'm posting this version. *Suzy Bogguss - Drive South* *Canned Heat - On The Road Again* If you love your car and you have a few bobs to spare, you owe it to yourself to get this CD set. Best wishes Metairie road
C.Bogle
I'm not too familiar with Ronnie Dawson, but I am with Canned Heat. Sometimes it's not the spare change, but the spare time that's the problem. So much to listen to, not enough time.
C.Bogle
Hawkwind in the early 1970s had a space rock vibe going. Forty years later, they're still around! There are enough ex-Hawkwind members to form a small English village. Hawkwind playing Master of the Universe. Wow, look at all the far out colors, man. misswonderly3
As who doesn't. Especially on a 35 degree August day ( about 80 degrees for you folks). Here is a very beautiful simple little song, written by Gillian Welsh, this version performed by Emmy Lou Harris, "Orphan Girl": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFDk3U9oGq0&feature=related
C.Bogle
I wouldn't mind an ice cold White Russian either. Nice selection. I haven't played that CD in a while. I saw Emmy Lou in a small venue about a dozen years ago. Lovely voice.

I never even knew the Mamas and the Papas covered it. They got kind of a country thing going with it, didn't they? Something like that. They covered a few others songs too. C.Bogle
A one album wonder, but quite an album. 4 Non Blondes with What's Up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwCt0YQPn7g&feature=av2e
misswonderly3
Interesting pics of the M and the P's , tracey. My Girl , probably because it's such a pretty song, has been covered by many different artists (even the Stones had a go at it).
misswonderly3
The Non Blonde who's singing looks a bit like Ann Hathaway (well, come on, a bit ). Fun video. I like the big hat. Remember the Seinfeld episode in which Kramer and George are talking about what it is to "yearn" ? Seems to me that Morrissey's all about yearning in this song, "Never Played Symphonies" : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ea6VWwqJgN8&feature=related Edited by: misswonderly on Aug 16, 2010 3:42 PM
C.Bogle
Time is catching up even with the Moz. He's been yearning for a quarter of a century now, no small accomplishment. Perhaps he would not subscribe to Oscar's saying that the only thing worse than not getting what you want is getting what you want. Heaven knows he's yearning now. How come George and Jerry always decide to follow their yearning when they're standing on a pier/boardwalk? Maybe it's the sea air.
C.Bogle
New Order playing Age of Consent. My, look at all the purty flowers.
misswonderly3
That's a purdy good song. I don't mind one image on the screen if the music playing is good; anyway, that's when I catch up on Finnegan's Wake. Always keep it handy for these moments. However, you'll have a lot to look at with this one. Frank Zappa live, and shirtless to boot. Bill Holden's got nothin' on Frank. My Girl , probably because it's such a pretty song, has been covered by many different artists (even the Stones had a go at it). I like this version because they do a lot of the background melody with voices instead of instruments. It's different and well-done, I think. C.Bogle
Frank's not looking too bad for a regular guy. I guess that no drugs policy worked out, that and the weasels ripped my flesh exercise regime. I keep meaning to post a Mothers' video, but I always forget. Have to look for a good one on YT. I thought it was Finnegans Wake.
misswonderly3
tracey, I went back and listened again to the M and P's My Girl, this time paying more attention to the music than the visuals. Your'e right, they use vocal arrangements like instruments. I guess that was one of their specialties.
misswonderly3
The apostrophe after Finnegan was deliberate. That James Joyce needed someone to look after his punctuation. My plan is to re-edit Finnegans ( ' ) Wake from start to finish, adding the necessary punctuation marks where Joyce forgot them. Although I have been advised I should start with Ulysses and work my way up to Finnegans Wake . Coincidentally, Frank Zappa did a song called "Apostrophe". I must have been thinking about that when I wrote that post. How come Dylan never appears in any of these music threads? Is he one of those "love him or hate him, and I hate him" artists? I say, Dylan forever. With or without punctuation. This is a great song that nobody seems to know about. If you don't like the lyrics you can just sing Phil Spectre's "And Then He Kissed Me" along with it:
C.Bogle
That will be a time consuming task. Maybe it wasn't purposeful art or lack of grammatical knowledge, but poor eyesight that led to Joyce's unconventional punctuation. This is a step forward. Now even the non-professors can be kept busy for decades. I'll start and stop here. Riverrun, I like Dylan, and may post a video, I'm sure there are quite a few good ones. But not this one. When I clicked it on I got the old corporate message: This video contains content from Sony Music Entertainment. It is no longer available in your country. Oops. I've meant to post Van Morrison, but he is, or at least used to be, very stingy with what is on YT. Maybe that's changed.
