C.Bogle
Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, the band's designated drinker, rarely did a vocal on a studio album, but he did on this occasion. Grateful Dead with Operator. R.I.P. Pigpen.

misswonderly3
Well, I don't know why "Pigpen" didn't do more singing...that was very pleasant, and his voice suited the song well. finance: the Doors, yeah, why don't we have more of the Doors around here? I like 'em, but somehow never get around to posting their stuff. I'll cite my standard excuse - so much music, so little time.

C.Bogle
Or, Subliminally, riots on the streets of Miami. And the indecent exposure thing in Miami still to come. Like those old Hollywood stories, there are many differing accounts of exactly what happened. Take your pick. I'm a casual Doors' fan. I still like some of the softer songs on Waiting for the Sun, maybe not what most people think of when they think of the Doors' music.
C.Bogle
He was a blues enthusiast, and that's a good song for him to sing. Since Jerry wrote most of the music, he sang most of the tunes. Pigpen would belt out a few blues songs on the live albums. Albert King, King of the Flying V. I've always liked the lyric If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have no luck at all. C.Bogle
I never knew that Hank Snow was a Canadian, straight outta Brooklyn (Nova Scotia). Hank singing I Don't Hurt Anymore. mrroberts
Misswonderly, I'll be in Kitchener on May 17th to see Burton Cummings. Burton was and still is a huge Jim Morrison fan. He sometimes wears a Morrison/ Doors shirt when he performs. Cummings has a home in L A somewhere near Morrison's old home. He says when he drives by the house he always lets out a yell to "Jimbo". misswonderly3
Kitchener/Waterloo is a fine town, well actually two towns merged together. I'm sure you'll have a lovely time. Yup, Hank Snow was a proud Canadian. He also wrote the famous "Moving On".Canada has actually produced a lot of country singers. After all, we are a "big country" too. Well, another Saturday night. Guess Cat Stevens agrees with Sam Cooke about this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLeWB3C2cLo Edited by: misswonderly on May 14, 2011 10:32 AM
DownGoesFrazier
As far as I knew , Morrison spent his entire time in LA just crashing at other people's pads. I don't recall any "home". Could you picture him living in Beverly Hills?
DownGoesFrazier
That's kind of an unwieldy name for a town. When they merged , the town should have been called Witchener, KItcherloo, or some such name.
cujas
Well, I've seen Morrison's last home and it's no place near LA. It's Pere Lachaise Cememtery in Paris. And apparently even in death he's controversial. His grave site draws crowds and vandals, which upsets the families of his deceased neighbors. DownGoesFrazier
In the bookstore, I looked at a copy of Rolling Stone's Top 100 artists of all time. After the obvious Beatles, Dylan, Presley, and Stones, #5 was none other than "Chuck Berry makin' merry for your listenin' pleasure, little treasure". In his honor, I'll be posting my favorite Berry song tomorrow.
mrroberts
I believe the reference to "Jimbo's" home is the girlfriend Pam's house. Technically speaking, I guess thats in Sherman Oaks. About 6 years ago I actually spent about 6 days staying in a Best Western motel in Sherman Oaks, I was traveling all around the LA area (including a run to San Diego ),. I didn't know where all the "historical" landmarks were at. I should have bought one of those tourist's maps. The whole time I was out there I didn't see one celebrity (without visiting the cemeteries), I guess I didn't know where the hip places were. misswonderly3
Since we've been discussing floozies recently, I thought I'd post a song by the Kinks in which a floozie is prominently featured. The whole story contained in this doleful tune reads like a second-rate melodrama, maybe starring Joan Crawford and Ray Milland. I haven't yet cast the floozie, however. This is one to listen to after (or perhaps during) a lost weekend. Alcohol :
DownGoesFrazier
I lived in LA for several years. The place where you saw the most celebrities was Saturday nights at the multiplex theatre in Century City. They went to the movies just like everyone else. C.Bogle
I think Chuck richly deserves his #5 ranking. He was there early with some great songs. Besides the usual suspects, I like Memphis, Tennessee, No Particular Place to Go, and his only Hot 100 #1 My Ding-a-Ling.
C.Bogle
The Breeders' live videos are kind of hit and miss quality wise, but this is a good one, along with a little logistical chitchat. The Breeders looking for one Divine Hammer.
