"Yes we can can!" said Little Nicola.

Miss--Pat Boone was one of the top male vocalists of his decade--great and serious voice. "April Love" always gave me goosebumps. He was probably the first real singer who attempted rock and had a real movie career. See: "Bernadine" and "Mardi Gras" I saw first run--real "cute".

His religion doesn't have anything really to do with his career.

Saw the Val Lewton/Jacques Tournier *Cat People* the other night. Great movie, love all the films made by those two guys. Borderline noirish. The remake in the 80s wasn't nearly so good, but it did have a fabulous theme song by David Bowie. Not sure if it's titled "Cat People" or "Putting Out Fire with Gasoline". Anyway, here 'tis. I hear it's one of Pat Boone's favourites.

I don't think I've ever seen the remake all the way through, just bits and

pieces. It would be hard to top the original. Sounds a bit like Putting out

the fire with Jack LaLanne. It's a few months too late for that though.

Fi--actually Pat Boone made a lot of money "covering" black rock records for the white audience. Just as the black artist was about to make a splash with a hot 45--Pat covered it and took the mainstream audience. I believe his most famous/or infamous as some may see it was Little Richard's Tutti Frutti and then there was Fats Domino's "Ain't That a Shame".

Those White Stripes - always a breath of pepperminty fresh air.

So today is May 24th. Queen Victoria's birthday. In Canada, we have this day off to celebrate.Well, not really - to make it a long weekend, we just get the third Monday in May off, whether it's the 24th or not. So often it lines up with your American Memorial Day. Anyway, we bow every time we are amused, and we have fireworks in the evening. Sometimes the Prime Minister wields a sceptre and talks about someone called Bertie. Usually not, though.

In fact, I doubt very much if even half the Canadian population actually knows why we get this holiday. Doesn't matter, it's a holiday.

So, C.B., since I know how much you adore the British Royal Family, and you can't get more British, nor more Royal, than old Queen Victoria, I figured I'd post a song in her honour. Yup, there aren't that many songs by Queen that I actively like, but "Killer Queen" is one of them. It's a little known fact that this tune is about the late great monarch of the 19th century. Take it away, Freddie:

We are not amused, but cover up your piano legs anyway. I am surprised that

anybody is still celebrating that old bag o' bones, but people will do anything to

get a holiday. QV is from the high days of British imperialism, so it's is fun to

look back and see how far the British have fallen. Now they're just minor lapdogs

to Uncle Scam. Sweet. The British and French are getting a little nostalgic thrill

in bombing Libya, just like the good old days. Go get 'em Colonel, chew 'em up

and don't spit 'em out.

I was a pretty big Queen fan, and there's a lot of good songs in their catalog, and

Killer Queen is near the top. Too bad the old girl wasn't that exciting.

Honi soit qui mal y pense. Ain't necessarily so.

Little Richard claimed recording studios called on Pat Boone to make sure a black artist didn't have the number one record. They saw the prospect and said, STOP HIM, PAT! Somebody should have stopped Pat. His picket fence rendition of "Tutti Fruity" is ridiculous.
