cujas
I can remember we bought Ricky Nelson's version of "I'm Walking" too. It's not as good as Fats', but Ricky was so young and cute!.
misswonderly3
> {quote:title=finance wrote:}{quote} > I'm surprised. I thought you would select "Victoria" by the Kinks. Well, I'm impressed and mildly surprised that you're familiar with that particular song. Yes, it seems the obvious choice, and it's a great little rocker. I did think of it, but I'd just posted a Kinks song about a week ago, and I didn't want to overdo it. Don't want people getting all Kinked out. misswonderly3
Never mind the Queen ...I just found out that yesterday it was Dylan's birthday. Who cares about a crabby old matriarch who pretended gay people didn't exist when you've got one of the greatest songwriters ever born on the same date? Problem is, it's very difficult to find original Dylan recordings on youtube. Thousands of covers, most of them pretty lame. I wanted to post one of his good but less well-known tracks from one of his earlier albums. At first I had a few particular ones in mind, but as I realized that precious few of these wonderful songs are available on youtube, I gave up and just was happy to find an original Bob Dylan number. So apologies for posting such a chestnut. Subterranean Homesick Blues is a great song, but hardly an undiscovered gem. Has everyone seen *Don't Look Back* ? Anyway, you don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_ujAXxNxU0&feature=related

DownGoesFrazier
You're talking like I'm a 95-year old Amish man of the cloth. Why would I not know a reasonably well-known Kinks song?

redriver
apologies for posting such a chestnut. Subterranean Homesick Blues is a great song, but hardly an undiscovered gem. Don't apologize. BOY, is that a great song!
C.Bogle
What is the Amish take on computers? Is it laptops only? And wouldn't you love to see what's stored on their hard drives? I never realized SHB was such a short song, thought there's a lot packed into it.
C.Bogle
Sheryl Crow doing some Hollywood/rock star sexy siren moves and grooves on My Favorite Mistake. I like her songs, but for some reason never actually bought any of her CDs. The perfect situation for a greatest hits CD. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0zq_jmfsYE
DownGoesFrazier
You hit the jackpot. It's my #1 Dylan song.
DownGoesFrazier
For me, Sheryl Crow's greatest claim to fame is that she was Lance Armstrong's girlfriend.
DownGoesFrazier
Maybe I've led a sheltered life, but I've never heard of a gas pump being vandalized.
redriver
I guess my favorite is "Don't Think Twice, It's Allright." I can't think of ANY song I like better than that. If there's one tune he'll be remembered for, many, many years from now, it's "Blowin' In the Wind." Probably the most important musical contribution of the 1960's. The anthem of a generation. I also like "Mr. Tambourine Man," "She Belongs to me," and a less known beauty, "Tomorrow Is a Long Time."
DownGoesFrazier
Have you heard the version of that song by the WONDER WHO? (The Four Seasons)? Certainly different from Dylan's version.
misswonderly3
I once bought a Sheryl Crowe CD, but it was solely for that hit she had in the 90s, something about having some fun before you die. I still think it's a great song, and one day I might post it here. It could be argued that Sheryl's persona in the song was being slightly floozie-like, as she was hanging out in a bar in the middle of the night. Only by old movie standards, though. Bo Diddley maintains that we should not go by appearances, as he proclaims in "You Can't Judge a Book by its Cover". Lots of twirling swirling chicks dancing in the background, some of them possibly floozies. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGHYC_7SMDE
DownGoesFrazier
Maybe that's why they call me "finance". I would never buy a CD just for one song. Do they still sell "singles"?
C.Bogle
In general I'd say she's famous for being a talented and successful pop musician. The fact that she was the girlfriend of some pompous gasbag is just a footnote. He probably has a lot on his mind these days too. I don't know why people are always complaining about buying a CD and only finding one or two good songs on it. The ones I buy usually have plenty of good songs on them, with maybe one or two average ones.
C.Bogle
Bo playing outside the box, and he looks almost professorial with those specs. Maybe the dancers are pre-floozies. A womanish girl has got to start somewhere.
misswonderly3
I didn't complain that I bought a Sheryl Crow CD and discovered that it just had one good song on it. I said it was because of that song that I bought it. That doesn't mean that the rest of the tunes on it were rubbish...there were several good ones. (Although the Santa Monica Boulevard one was the best.)
C.Bogle
This week is the anniversary of a certain rock figure. Yes, today is A.J. Weberman's birthday. Dylanologist/garbaglogist/Blimpie wrapperologist, etc. There's a slight obsession there, something akin to Bob Dylan's song She Belongs to Me. misswonderly3
It's a Bobfest ! However, I'm sorry to say that when I clicked the link, I got one of those discouraging messages, "This video has been blocked in your country blah blah blah" I'll never understand how that stuff works. (Still, I have the CD that lovely song is on, so maybe I'll just play that.)
C.Bogle
Hmmm. I guess for whatever arcane legal reason, it's not available in Canada. I've seen songs on YT where, though the songs are from the same album, one is blocked and another is not. Whatever. I didn't mean you personally, Miss W. I was just thinking of people in general who buy a CD and then complain there're only one or two good songs on a 12 or 14 song CD. I've never come across that problem myself. (Well there was that Pat Boone heavy metal album).
DownGoesFrazier
I believe the title is "All I wanna do".....For me to have bought an LP, I needed to know BEFOREHAND that there were at least 3 or 4 really good songs on it. cujas
Did anybody else see Graham Nash and David Crosby on Jimmy Fallon last night? Nash looked great and still played a mean guitar--the 2 of them have just released a new CD.
