that Rudy Giuliani was working with Mick Mulvaney on a rogue operation with legal implications, Hill told the investigators.

BREAKING:

#Bolton: "I'm not gonna be part of whatever drug deal #Giuliani and #Mulvaney are cooking up" about pressuring #Ukraine to investigate #JoeBiden.

Defense Secretary Mark Esper will no longer comply with impeachment inquiry

In a letter sent to House Democrats on Tuesday, the Department of Defense argues that the subpoena is invalid and violates executive privilege.

...... House Democrats sent a subpoena to Esper on Oct. 7, giving him until Tuesday to comply. The House has warned that failure to do so would be evidence of obstruction of justice. .....

Trump Wanted Zelensky to Publicly Say He Was Investigating Biden

A private pledge to investigate a political rival’s clan wasn’t enough. Donald Trump wanted Volodymyr Zelensky to “go to a microphone” and commit to investigating.

"....if President Zelenskyy did not 'clear things up' in public, we would be at a ‘stalemate.’ I understood a ‘stalemate’ to mean that Ukraine would not receive the much-needed military assistance,” Taylor told Congress....

JUST IN: A federal judge has ordered the Justice Department to give the House Judiciary Committee

grand jury material and other now-secret material from former special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.

The judge signed an opinion that rejected the Justice Department's argument that it must preserve the secrecy of grand jury and other material

— and denied Republicans' case that House Democrats' impeachment inquiry is invalid.

Even more important than getting the grand jury testimony could be the judge's ruling

that it is already an impeachment inquiry without requiring a vote.

Exactly what democrats have been claiming

And will ultimately be decided by the Trump/Roberts Supreme Court.

“Reeker tells House impeachment investigators on Saturday that the top leadership of the State Department

rejected his entreaties to publicly support the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine

who was the target of a conspiracy-fueled smear campaign.”

John Kelly says he warned Trump before he left: “Whatever you do, don’t hire a ‘yes man,’ someone who won’t tell you the truth — don’t do that. Because if you do, I believe you will be impeached.”

Schiff says “we will not allow” WH to drag out investigation in lengthy court fights. Dems have been signaling this for weeks. Gone are the days of long court battles. Now, Schiff says it will likely be added evidence to articles of impeachment for obstruction

The House has been following the facts and the evidence has only made the President’s own words on his call more appalling.

This resolution will set up the structure for the next phase where the American people can hear those facts for themselves in open hearings. #TruthExposed
======================================

Newsflash: there is nothing Pelosi can do to satisfy the “process” concerns of Republicans.

They will change their demands, over and over and over, shamelessly, because guess what...

(whisper voice) this isn’t really about the “process”...

Important: Each time GOP uses "no due process" argument it is incumbent on press to point out this is false.

The resolution provides more due process than afforded any other president in history.

Ask what other due process do they want?

They will not be able to name anything.

TODAY: Former National Security Aide Tim Morrison, who listened to Trump's call with the President of Ukraine, testified before Congress behind closed doors.

Morrison corroborated testimony that Trump sought a quid pro quo with Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden.

https://www.inquirer.com/news/jeff-van-drew-vote-impeachment-what-he-said-20191031.html

New Jersey Democrat Jeff Van Drew on why he voted against the Trump impeachment inquiry

Why he voted no:

“We will impeach, I’m sure, in the House. That will go to the Senate. It will fail in the Senate as far as actually convicting him, and then we’re going to have a failed impeachment. We are going to have the same president, and we’re going to have the same presidential candidate who will be able to say that he was exonerated, so I don’t know how much we really gained from that. And at the same time we’re going to be so focused on these issues, we’re not going to have the focus on the issues we all care about so much like health care, like prescription drugs, like infrastructure like veterans concerns and doing more for the veterans.”

Interesting viewpoint and not without merit.  Impeachment is a double edged sword for the Dems.

Even Lindsay Graham said a quid pro quo would be a no-no.  Though I expect him to forget he ever said that quite soon.

Graham has already commented that it is not a quid pro quo in his opinion.  His, and many others, interpretation would be for Trump to say: if you (Ukraine) publicly announce an investigation of the Bidens, I will invite you to the White House and free the funds.  If you don't I won't.  Unfortunately it is not quite that clear.

However, Trump's actions and intentions are far clearer than Pres. Clinton's were when Graham, as a House member, voted to impeach Clinton and then was a prosecutor in the Senate trial.

Regardless, you would have to understand American politics, especially in S.C.  If Graham does not defend and stand with Trump to the bitter end, he will lose the GOP primary.  It is that simple.

There is an alternative; they just don't want to do it.

This week's The Week magazine had an interesting article on the conundrum the Dems are facing over impeachment, at least as far as Pence is concerned.

If Trump goes, Pence becomes president and he is super conservative and religious.  His appointments to courts and executive actions would make Trump's pale in many circumstances.  And there would be way less publicity and drama than with Trump.  He could very easily ride the anti-impeachment and otherwise anti-Dem and pro-GOPer sentiments to a victory in 2020.  Maybe even turn the House back to GOP.

Zero chance that Trump and Pence would both be impeached and convicted, at least not before Pres. Pence would appoint a new vice-president who would succeed him.  Nikki Haley would be a very likely candidate for that job and would easily win confirmation before Pence could be convicted.

  1. The Mueller Memos

The Mueller Report’s Secret Memos

BuzzFeed News sued the US government to see all the work that Mueller’s team kept secret.

We have published the first installment, with revelations about the Ukraine conspiracy theory, Michael Cohen, Paul Manafort, and more.

..... The documents revealed Saturday, known as “302 reports,” are summaries of interviews with former White House official and Trump campaign manager Stephen Bannon, Cohen, Gates, and more. They are some of the most important and highly sought-after documents from Mueller’s investigation. They reveal what key players in the campaign told FBI agents about Russia, Trump, the email hack during the 2016 presidential campaign, and Trump associates’ handling of the special counsel’s investigation. .........
