I can’t wait for the pathetic  U.S state-run television, Fox News, to talk about something else besides their God leader, Donald Trump, whether to lie for him, parrot his lies, come up with new lies, which he will then parrot, etc.   Believe me, if this happens, I will be STUNNED!

News media  i.e. MSNBC MUST follow in lockstep with the left wing viewpoints or it's labeled "state run".  Lost another cat from laughing.

The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2

Since the first reports of a novel pneumonia (COVID-19) in Wuhan city, Hubei province, China there has been considerable discussion and uncertainty over the origin of the causative virus, SARS-CoV-2. Infections with SARS-CoV-2 are now widespread in China, with cases in every province. As of 14 February 2020, 64,473 such cases have been confirmed, with 1,384 deaths attributed to the virus. These official case numbers are likely an underestimate because of limited reporting of mild and asymptomatic cases, and the virus is clearly capable of efficient human-to-human transmission. Based on the possibility of spread to countries with weaker healthcare systems, the World Health Organization has declared the COVID-19 outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). There are currently neither vaccines nor specific treatments for this disease.

SARS-CoV-2 is the seventh member of the Coronaviridae known to infect humans. Three of these viruses, SARS CoV-1, MERS, and SARS-CoV-2, can cause severe disease; four, HKU1, NL63, OC43 and 229E, are associated with mild respiratory symptoms. Herein, we review what can be deduced about the origin and early evolution of SARS-CoV-2 from the comparative analysis of available genome sequence data. In particular, we offer a perspective on the notable features in the SARS-CoV-2 genome and discuss scenarios by which these features could have arisen. Importantly, this analysis provides evidence that SARS-CoV-2 is not a laboratory construct nor a purposefully manipulated virus.

The genomic comparison of both alpha- and betacoronaviruses (family Coronaviridae ) described below identifies two notable features of the SARS-CoV-2 genome: (i) based on structural modelling and early biochemical experiments, SARS-CoV-2 appears to be optimized for binding to the human ACE2 receptor; (ii) the highly variable spike (S) protein of SARS-CoV-2 has a polybasic (furin) cleavage site at the S1 and S2 boundary via the insertion of twelve nucleotides. Additionally, this event led to the acquisition of three predicted O-linked glycans around the polybasic cleavage site.

1. With the coronavirus killing thousands and threatening to tank the global economy, I feel like more people should be talking about the fact that Trump fired the entire pandemic response team two years ago and then didn't replace them

2. Trump also cut funding for the CDC, forcing the CDC to cancel its efforts to help countries prevent infectious-disease threats from becoming epidemics in 39 of 49 countries in 2018.

Among the countries abandoned? China.

3. This isn't just about accountability. It's about drawing attention to the structural problems in the US response effort before things get worse.

Why isn't the House holding hearings right now?

This morning’s classified coronavirus briefing should have been made fully open to the American people

—they would be as appalled & astonished as I am by the inadequacy of preparedness & prevention.

Some perspective on Trump's $2.5 billion #coronavirus request:

-His budget cuts $3 billion from global health programs, $3 billion from NIH, and another 16% from CDC

-He's eliminated WH pandemic position

-He's more concerned about health of stock market than public health

CDC expects ‘community spread’ of coronavirus, as top official warns disruptions could be ‘severe’

https://www.statnews.com/2020/02/25/cdc-expects-community-spread-of-coronavirus-as-top-official-warns-disruptions-could-be-severe/

Like the common cold, flu, it may be impossible to halt this virus.  Man vs nature, guess who wins.  Man never learns.

Trump is supposed to have a press conference Wed. night to discuss the coronvirus.  Apparently it is not going away in April as he said it would.  Unfortunately he and his political hack appointees have all been playing down the significance of the threat to America.

Diet Coke will be affected as its sweetners come from China.  The automobile and most other American businesses and industries will be affected because their supplies come from China or other severely affected areas.

Trump does not understand that there is nothing he can do financially for American industry.  If they do not have the parts and materials, they cannot build the products.  Also, if people stay home, they will not buy the products or services except online and that is only part of the market.

Look at the post by mr6666 directly above yours here.  This situation is made more dire by what your moron president has done to our health safety net, gutting the funding for departments and programs that could help in mitigating this looming disaster.

And on top of that, Trump and his hack appointees are trying to act as if this is “totally under control”, and that a cure is nigh.  Lies by an administration and president known for its lies.  This is one of the reasons for the stock sell off of the last couple of days....investors are spooked by disruptions to the economy, as well as unable to believe anything the Trump administration says on this.

The president has three approaches to infectious diseases that he deploys, and they all seem to depend on politics.

Trump treats  a possible epidemic and  everything the same way--

His only interest is:

1) Can he get any money out of it?

2) Can he get any political Advantage from it?

3) Can he hurt his enemies or adversaries with it?

Whether or not the issue is for the protection or benefit of the American people

Or a danger to the American people

never enters his mind.

If you read the article, you would see that it says that testing and approval should take over one year.  Goodness, those that said it would take over a year might be correct!

Over a year to come up with a trial vaccine.

More likely the reason behind the  quick development is corona  and the flu shares a lot in common.
