#BREAKING: If Trump had listened to urgent warnings about #coronavirus from experts and advisers in January, the U.S. could have averted as much as 86% of the economic damage it's now facing, per a new analysis by @robshapiro, a former Commerce official.

You think trump had a meltdown yesterday. Wait till he reads this.

I take that back, he has trouble reading --

so one of his rich friends will tell him about this one, I'm sure.

Is there good reporting on how Trump did contingency planning (financial, operational) in his businesses?

Like, did they have cash reserves or did they careen from good times to bankruptcy? They operate hotels in Atlantic City; what kind of planning did they do for storms or other disasters? Or did they rely on getting contractors to do the work then stiff them?

Like, was the Trump organization budgeters, or did they rely on Deutsche Bank to bail them out?

trump always solved his business problems with bankruptcy--

the small business people and the illegal immigrants who worked for him got stiffed--

But trump did okay.

Well, if the same thing happens to the United States--

We can expect another depression with unemployment topping out over 20%--

but I have a feeling that--

trump would be okay.

37 immigrant children at Chicago-area shelters have COVID-19

CHICAGO — Officials say dozens of immigrant children living in three Chicago-area shelters have tested positive for COVID-19 and the number could increase as test results come back.

The Chicago-based Heartland Alliance reports 37 of 69 children are positive. The group runs the shelters where children in the custody of the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement are waiting to be released to a relative or legal guardian.

Federal officials stopped placing children in states including New York because of concerns related to the coronavirus.

Heartland officials say the children’s prognosis is “very good” and staff members are taking precautions. .........

Singapore closed schools, nonessential businesses and instructed residents to stay home;

a sharp escalation, as part of a strategy of "suppress and lift".

Its second wave is worse then its first, with 287 new cases Thursday, its highest ever one-day total
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
‘Suppress and lift’: Hong Kong and Singapore say they have a coronavirus strategy that works

"...........The two cities based their policies on detailed data about the state of their epidemics, gathered by extensive testing of contacts of confirmed cases and of people who enter hospitals with unexplained respiratory illnesses. Physicians can order tests for other patients based on their own clinical or epidemiological judgments. As a result, Singapore has done roughly 12,800 tests per million population; Hong Kong, 13,800, according to respective health authority statistics—some of the highest testing rates in the world.

Both cities hospitalize those who test positive, regardless of whether they have symptoms, to prevent them from infecting others. Close contacts of cases and all recent returnees must self-quarantine at home for 2 weeks........

How Greece used rapid response to keep its virus deaths low

Despite having one of Europe’s oldest populations, a frail health care system and little financial firepower, Greece has so far been spared the disasters that have hit Italy, Spain, Britain and other European countries. As of yesterday, it had recorded 2,170 COVID-19 cases and 101 deaths. Two countries of comparable size, Belgium and Netherlands, had recorded 4,167 and 2,945 deaths, respectively.

Bolstered by political and popular support, the Greek government led by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis listened to its scientists and moved much faster than most other countries to lock down the economy. Eric Reguly reports.

Goes far, far beyond that.  Many (most) people today have bulk of their savings in 401(k's), IRA's, Annuities, etc. These are invested in the "economy" that would fail.  Add in that most government and private pensions are also heavily invested in the economy that would fail.

In other words, you and me brother.

Read where VA is particularly susceptible because of aged population living in nursing homes on Medicaid.  Not sure, but think one nursing home there had a very high rate of infection compared to rest of country.

I think the one Cid  referred to is in Virginia.  In any case, I’ve seen reports where deaths in nursing homes around the country aren’t even counted as covid-19 Deaths, note even tested to confirm this.  So there may be more deaths in WV from the virus than the official figure.

West Virginia nursing homes were taking action by restricting access, taking measures before any cases were reported. Governor Justice took action and locked everything down after only a couple of reported cases which was in the eastern panhandle region.

A small but growing body of evidence suggests the virus invades other organs and tissues, causing heart arrhythmias, blood clots and renal failure.

The Democrats HAVE worked with Trump and the Radical Republicans in Congress.  That is how the three Covid 19 relief acts got passed.  That is how the fourth Covid 19 relief bill will get passed.

On the other hand, the Dems should not give Trump and the GOPers a blank check to protect the wealthy and the corporations and ignore the rest of America.

It is the Republicans under Mitch McConnell who are not working for America, but rather to prolong a government for the wealthy and corporations and against everyone else.

trump has to have a scapegoat for his own inability to properly recognize and manage the pandemic in the United States in the wake of thousands of Americans dead.

The WHO is a terrific scapegoat for trump because it's a global organization which is headed by a person of color. And then to attack the organization as being in league  against the US with the Chinese communists is another attribute--

Globalism and racism the perfect red meat for trump's bigoted base.

Republicans Cheer as Trumpist Judge Launches Holy War Against Government

339acf0610e7a6a4d7c10aaa887b1bbe

Donald Trump’s allies are turning the battle against coronavirus into a culture war by claiming that social-distancing rules are a government attack on Christianity.

The Department of Justice announced Attorney General William Barr is poised to sue states that limit the ability of parishioners to pray together in the midst of this pandemic. A number of Republican governors, including Florida’s Ron DeSantis, have exempted religious services from some or all of their states’ social-distancing rules.

And a judge recently appointed to the federal bench, who Trump may be grooming for a Supreme Court nomination, is now wildly attacking social-distancing rules as a supposedly grievous “threat” to Christian “believers.”

Justin Walker, a 38-year-old former law clerk to Brett Kavanaugh, is among the crop of young, extremely conservative lawyers Trump has installed on the federal bench. While the American Bar Association rated Walker “not qualified,” because he had less than 12 years of experience as a practicing lawyer, that did not prevent GOP senators from confirming him last year. On March 13, Mitch McConnell shut down the Senate in the midst of negotiations for the first coronavirus-relief bill and traveled back to Kentucky to attend a celebration of Walker’s investiture as a federal judge; Kavanaugh presided over the event. Then, this month, Trump nominated Walker  to serve on the D.C. Circuit, the appellate court on which Kavanaugh previously sat, and a frequent source of Supreme Court nominees.

Walker repaid that faith in his career last week, in a case brought by the On Fire Christian Center against the City of Louisville and its mayor, by ruling that the church should be permitted to conduct a drive-in service, in violation of the city’s stay-at-home order.

Larry, you're hitting home for me with this one.

This Easter weekend we had some crazy Republican trump people in the Legislative Council try to rescind the Democratic Governor's executive order against religious gatherings of more than 10 people.

It was led by a nutcase anti-abortion fanatical woman from Wichita, Susan wagle.

Unfortunately she's the president of the Senate, and when the legislature is not in session, she has some power with this council.

I say crazy Republicans, because the moderate Republicans including the two last Republican governors, campaigned for this Democratic female governor, Laura Kelly, against trump's pick--

the infamous Kris ( allegedly with white supremacist ties) kobach.

Well it was led by this wagle woman who said that the governor was trying to prevent people from worshipping and it was an attack on Christianity. Poppycock!  People are dying from an epidemic down here and it's a matter of public health!

The governor said she took an oath to uphold the Kansas Constitution and protect Kansans and nothing was going to stand in the way of her doing that.

And the trump Republicans pulled all this crazy crap in a week where the governor also had a prison riot to deal with that was related to covid-19.

So the governor launched a lawsuit to sue the Legislative Council for rescinding her executive order. So on Saturday morning it was  presented before The Kansas Supreme Court  on Zoom.

Saturday evening, of course, the Court ruled in favor of the governor.

But what these trump people try to do is simply take some stupid premise and blow it out of proportion to gain favor with and politically manipulate some rubes who are moonie type religious fanatics, racist or simply stupid.

True the wagle woman is  an anti-abortion fanatic. But what she's really trying to do is to get trump's attention so that she can get some kind of position in the Administration. So far, Pompeo and others have simply ignored her.

wagle and kobach's kind of fanaticism just doesn't work in Kansas. We certainly learned our lesson with Sam Brownback!
