Is there anybody out there that can point me to a website that has the history of guns in motion pictures and television that fired blank cartridges? As some of you know I have become an avid fan of the show Bonanza. Looks like they are using real guns, I grew up around guns, fired many an antique and was wondering how the blanks worked.

I found this little article interesting, though it's more an explainer on semi-automatics.

Then there's this, which is helpful in getting specifics on the gun models used in certain movies and TV shows. Lots of entries on Bonanza.

And my favorite source for general reference, Cracked magazine.

You should study up and write a definitive history yourself.

All you have to do is carefully remove the lead bullet from the cartridge obviously leave the powder in the cartridge  then  replace lead bullet with melted wax to seal it off. With that method you can use any caliber revolver.
