Homeless people are at risk from the coronavirus. Police have a contentious solution: Drones.

Since states issued shelter-in-place orders, police departments have seized on the crisis as a moment to acquire more drones to do remote patrolling.

".......four law enforcement agencies across the country using drones during the coronavirus outbreak to communicate with homeless people, many of whom are surviving outdoors without sinks to wash their hands, and without reliable bathrooms, healthcare, internet access or electricity.

The idea, according to law enforcement officials interviewed by NBC News, is that homeless encampments are often tucked away in hard-to-access areas, and a drone can allow police to patrol with a live camera feed and blast information from the sky without having to venture in person at a time when the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is urging social distancing.........

Homeless service providers that are specifically trained to do outreach to encampments know where to go to find people who need help. That includes encampments that are off-the-beaten-path and are hard to get to, which is why trained professionals should be sent to help them, not drones, ..........

Virus Is Expected to Reduce Meat Selection and Raise Prices

COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, has infected hundreds of workers at meat-processing plants

".......COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, has infected hundreds of workers at meat-processing plants and forced some of the largest to close and others to slow production. While the output at beef and poultry plants has diminished, pork plants in the Midwest have been hit especially hard. The viral outbreaks have persisted despite efforts by the meat companies to keep workers at home with pay if they become sick.

The 15 largest pork-packing plants account for 60 percent of all pork processed, so when even one of those plants closes for days or weeks, the consequences ripple across the industry. That has become abundantly clear with two of the nation's biggest plants now closed: Tyson suspended operations at its plant in Waterloo, Iowa. And Smithfield Foods halted production at its plant in Sioux Falls, South Dakota........

BREAKING: Downstate IL judge says

stay-at-home extension to 5/30 violates constitution.

It blocks the order starting 5/1 — BUT only for the one person to filed the suit, State Rep. Darren Bailey.

I'm guessing these tar heads won't like that fact that Cooper has just cancelled the rest of this

school year. I just saw in the paper the other day that Cooper has outraised his GOP opponent

by about 10 or 15 to one, or some ridiculous number. Run Forest, Run.

What Happens When the Workers Who Make Hand Soap Get COVID-19?

They Protest.

After a worker at a beauty supply factory near Chicago died of COVID-19, her former co-workers staged a protest. But they didn’t seek help from OSHA.

They sought help from a new advocate: the state attorney general’s office.

Poll: Most in US will avoid public events until vaccine available

As states plan to reopen businesses many in the US say they will stay home - a dire concern for the stalled US economy.

".........

Only about four in 10 who follow sports avidly and go to arts and entertainment venues and amusement parks said they would do so again if they reopened before a vaccine was available, the poll found.

Another four in 10 said they were willing to wait, even if it takes more than a year to develop a vaccine............

Abortion by Telemedicine: A Growing Option as Access to Clinics Wanes

The coronavirus has created a surge in demand for telemedicine of all types — including for a quietly expanding program for terminating pregnancies.

"......The telemedicine program that Ms. Dale participated in has been allowed to operate as a research study for several years under a special arrangement with the Food and Drug Administration. It allows women seeking abortions to have video consultations with certified doctors and then receive abortion pills by mail to take on their own.

Over the past year, the program, called TelAbortion, has expanded from serving five states to serving 13, adding two of those — Illinois and Maryland — as the coronavirus crisis exploded. Not including those new states, about twice as many women had abortions through the program in March and April as in January and February...........

The VP declining to wear a mask, even in a medical setting with such requirements, allows for him to not contrast with the president, if the president begins to venture outside the White House without a mask. President Trump has said he doesn't see himself wearing a mask.

trump's federal government is afraid to take any more responsibility for any more deaths than they have to--

Catch 22, but whether they take responsibility or not as a federal entity, trump's Administration--

(not the individual states)--

will be responsible for the the final outcome of the pandemic's effect on the entire nation.

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) said in her state,
it will be considered a “voluntary quit” if an employee refuses to return to work once businesses reopen, thereby losing access to unemployment benefits.

A similar situation will soon play out in Texas.
==================================================

So the Republican position is employers should get a waiver of liability if their workplace turns out to be unhealthy,

but employees should lose unemployment benefits if they won't return to that unhealthy workplace.

Will American capitalism survive the current Republican Party?
