CNN has an article on this today.    The main reason for the flour shortage is a massive increase in demand.    This should only be temporacy since there is tons of wheat in storage and mills are increasing production.   (well unless these mills have to shut down because they don't protect their workers like those asinine meat processing plants and their management).

More people are at home now, using that bread making machine that's been gathering dust. ;)

I have not been able to find bread flour (for bread machines) for months.

I remember seeing "bread machine flour" in the distant past. I looked at the store today and they do not even have a space for it on the shelves. They did have a pallet half full of "bread flour". You can buy "vital wheat gluten" separately and add it to all-purpose flour for the same effect. Some stores carry it in the flour aisle and some carry it in the health-fad aisle.

Oklahoma city ends face mask rule for shoppers after store employees are threatened

"Store employees have been threatened with physical violence and showered with verbal abuse," the Stillwater city manager said. "There has been one threat of violence using a firearm."

......that many of the people who objected to wearing the masks have "the mistaken belief the requirement is unconstitutional." He said it's upsetting that while people have the right to exercise their beliefs, they are also putting others at risk.

The city manager pointed out that face masks and coverings are recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the state's health department to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. ..........

"The wearing of face coverings is little inconvenience to protect both the wearer and anyone with whom they have contact," McNickle said, condemning those who threatened violence. ..............

"To the people who resort to threats and intimidation when asked to take a simple step to protect your community: shame on you. Our freedom as Americans comes with responsibilities, too," the mayor tweeted. "We must find common ground and work together to deal with the circumstances our society is facing. Whether or not we agree on the details, we have to find ways to cooperate in the task before us.".........

"It is unfortunate and distressing that those who refuse and threaten violence are so self-absorbed as to not follow what is a simple show of respect and kindness to others.

He said businesses still have the right to require customers to wear a face mask or covering to enter."

Texas park ranger pushed into water after reminding crowd about social distancing

A man was arrested on suspicion of assault on a public servant in the incident at an Austin park.

..........The ranger, identified in an Austin police report as Cassidy Zukeran Stillwell, was telling a group of parkgoers at Lake Austin to spread apart when he was pushed. Thursday's scene was captured on video and shared on social media.

"Disperse yourselves," Stillwell can be heard saying in the video. "You're not engaging in that six feet of distance with each other."

.............Brandon James Hicks, 25, was arrested on suspicion of assault on a public servant and damaging city property, the ranger's emergency radio. Officials said he could have "caused the Ranger to strike his head on the dock as he was falling, and render himself unconscious in at least three feet of water where he could have drowned to death," according to a police report ..........

California city official ousted over his pandemic remarks

There was a swift uproar after Ken Turnage II characterized people with weak immune systems

as a drain on society who should be left to meet their “natural course in nature.”

He wrote on Facebook: “the World has been introduced to a new phrase Herd Immunity which is a good one. In my opinion we need to adapt a Herd Mentality.

A herd gathers it ranks, it allows the sick, the old, the injured to meet its natural course in nature.”

As for homeless people, he added that the virus would “fix what is a significant burden on our society and resources that can be used.”..............

City council members in Antioch, a city of about 110,000 people 35 miles east of Oakland, voted unanimously Friday night to remove Ken Turnage II from his post as chairman of the city’s planning commission. .............

Man arrested trying to quarantine on private Disney island

"Florida deputies arrested a man who had been living out his quarantine on a shuttered Disney World island, telling authorities it felt like a “tropical paradise.”

Orange County Sheriff’s deputies found Richard McGuire on Disney’s Discovery Island on Thursday. He said he’d been there since Monday or Tuesday and had planned to camp there for a week, according to an arrest report.

The 42-year-old said he didn’t hear numerous deputies searching the private island for him on foot, by boat and by air because he was asleep in a building. He told the deputy he didn’t know it was a restricted area, despite there being numerous “no trespassing” signs. .............

Coronavirus misinformation crosses divides to infect black social media

"What you have are the same, often very dangerous, ideas repackaged in a way that makes sense to very different groups of people," one expert said.

"..........The irony is that the misinformation amplified by Diamond and Silk and others has gained traction in conservative, mostly white social media spaces and black, mostly left-leaning online spaces, too. Concepts similar enough to pass as first cousins on the misinformation family tree have proliferated in social media spaces that do not usually cross or blend..........

"What you have are the same, often very dangerous, ideas repackaged in a way that makes sense to very different groups of people," said Shireen Mitchell, a researcher who studies online disinformation and harassment.

"And it's distrust in government, in the establishment, in institutions that are the connective tissue — they're a prevailing theme that makes these wild ideas seem true to those who believe." ..............

"Bad actors — foreign and domestic — have seized this public health crisis as an opportunity to generate panic and sow distrust by spreading disinformation, often targeted at communities of color," Ben Block, digital rapid response director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said in an email.

"Amid a chaotic response from the Trump Administration and House Republicans dismissing the guidance of medical professionals, these dangerous disinformation campaigns that spread demonstrably false narratives pose serious threats."............

.........People most vulnerable to misinformation, they found, were more likely to believe and share "news" gleaned on social media. They also found that those people were more likely to overestimate how well they understood a topic.

"It's really like 2016 again," Bucy said. "The crisis of COVID has produced this explosion of scams, misinformation and maybe more. There's all kinds of great, high-quality, accurate information out there, but you have to go and get it and be aware of where to find it.,,,,,,,,,

BREAKING: Trump is encouraging more protests this morning.

Calling the armed protesters in Michigan “good people.”
Says the Governor should make a deal with them. It’s not happening.

These Trump protests have accomplished nothing, except helped potentially spread the virus more.

:(

They wont be missed........

MITCH ALBOM wrote an interesting column this morning about America's impatience being more deadly than Covid-19  Offers comparisons such as some countries that's spent years to decades in poverty, civil war(like Syria) and where the people not only have to worry about where or how their next meal is coming from or if they'll be shot for no reason, just for living in the wrong pile of rubble.  And with that in mind, does it make any sense whining about not being able to go to the bar?

Being stuck in the house?  Well, lucky you.  Unlike the thousands of men, women and children who HAVE no house to be stuck in.    But then too....

Most(if not all) of those governors (like Michigan's Whitmer) are only acting on federal(as in "federal government") recommendations  based on sound medical studies.  And too hesitate in fully "reopening" their states, again based on federal( as in "federal government") regulation that insists a state must record 14 consecutive days with steadily decreasing new case and death numbers, which hasn't happened yet in those states. (not here in MICH yet)

And it makes matters worse for Trump to encourage protesters to deny the same rights of others in protest of THEIR rights supposedly being violated. As much as it's senseless to put certain rules into effect and then turn around and chastise people for adhering to them.

Got to thinking about how would people cope in those old fallout shelters back during the Cold War if there were a strike?

Staying cooped up in those for months!

Birx says protesters not practicing social distancing are 'devastatingly worrisome'

Meanwhile, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said some protesters "depicted some of the worst racism and awful parts of our history in this country."

......."It's devastatingly worrisome to me personally because if they go home and infect their grandmother or their grandfather who has a comorbid condition and they have a serious or a very ... unfortunate outcome, they will feel guilty for the rest of [their] lives," Birx said. ...........

"We know that people are not all happy about taking this stay at home posture," Whitmer told CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday. "And you know what, I'm not either. But the fact of the matter is, we have to listen to the epidemiologists and health experts and displays like the one we saw at our capitol is not representative of who we are."

"There were swastikas and Confederate flags and nooses and people with assault rifles, and that's a very small group of people when you think about the fact this is a state of almost 10 million people, the vast majority of whom are doing the right thing and that's why we've seen our curve get pushed down," she continued.........

"The Confederate flags and nooses, the swastikas, the behavior that you have seen in all of the clips is not representative of who we are in Michigan," (Whitmer) said. "And the fact of the matter is, I mean, we're in a global pandemic. This isn't something we just negotiate ourselves out of and it's a political matter."

"Whether you agree with me or not, I'm working to protect your life if you live in the state of Michigan," she added. "I'm going to continue to do my job, regardless of what tweets come out or what polls come out or what people think that is — makes sense. We're going to listen to facts and science, because we have got to get this right." ...........

Backlash to the backlash: Governors, medical officials wary of rush to reopen

“We have to keep doing the right thing, the next right thing,” one governor says.

"...........Governors from both parties discussed a range of difficult choices that would have been almost unimaginable three months ago — as well as such peculiar side issues as having armed protesters march on their capitols or needing to use the National Guard to protect coronavirus testing kits.

And even as many states have taken assorted steps to reopen — moves encouraged by President Donald Trump — political leaders and health professionals expressed concerns that more mitigation was needed.

“We have to keep listening to the epidemiologists and experts, and not listen to the partisan rhetoric or these political rallies, or tweets, for that matter,” Gov. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, a Democrat, said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “We have to keep doing the right thing, the next right thing.”

The pandemic’s death toll has continued to rise, topping 66,000 in the United States — by far the highest in the world —

.......

Whitmer said she understood what was at stake, both in terms of public health and economic upheaval.

“This is a public health crisis that has taken the lives of over — of almost 70,000 Americans, has put 30 million people into unemployment,“ she told host Jake Tapper. “We have lost in the last 24 hours almost the same number of Americans that were killed on 9/11.”............

“We’re trying to do it very carefully,” he (OH Gov. Dewine) told ABC’s Martha Raddatz.

“It is a balancing thing. We‘ve got to bring the economy back, but we also have to continue to protect people. And one of the things I emphasize with Ohioans is it’s not so much my orders or the health director’s orders. It is what we all do in our individual lives and how careful we are.” ...........

Anyone else noticed how, in his press rantings, trump always referred to Dr. Birx as 'Deborah, Deb, Debby, whatever...but Dr. Fauci is never called 'Anthony, Tony...  Just another example of his twisted mind expressing the sexist belief that women certainly don't deserve titles that give them any power or authority, right, Nancy? aka Senator Pelosi....  Lordy, this man is such a pig.

The Rush to Reopen-

Statewide stay-at-home orders around the country are expiring, and the new measures are a hodgepodge,
when what’s required is vigilance and cautious, calibrated plans.

".........The absurdity of some of the reopening measures—tattoo parlors?—raises the possibility that the public may be reluctant to follow the governors’ lead. Businesses may decide to stay closed or to keep their employees working from home. People may decide not to go to restaurants or malls or to take public transportation. But those with fewer financial resources may not have the luxury to choose safer ways of living.........

....Reopening should be something other than a lopsided reapportionment of risk. Nor can it rely on wishful thinking or luck.

It requires hard, deliberate work, with clear prerequisites: testing, contact tracing, leadership, mask-wearing, individual discipline, and a willingness, if cases spike, to change course. It can be done, but we have to get it right. ♦

"Having no plan is the plan! Haven’t you been listening? Plans are for commies and the Danish. Here we do it fast and loose and dumb and wrong, and occasionally we have a man who manufactures pillows come to the White House to show the president encouraging texts. It all works! Eighteen months, 800,000 deaths, no plan, states bidding against states for medicine and equipment, you’re on your own, plans are lame."
