Mike Pence Lies About Oklahoma’s COVID-19 Numbers Ahead of Trump Rally

where President Trump is scheduled to hold a large campaign rally on Saturday

......“In a very real sense, they’ve flattened the curve,” Pence claimed of that state. “And today their hospital capacity is abundant, the number of cases in Oklahoma has declined precipitously and we feel very confident going forward with the rally this coming weekend.”

In fact, Oklahoma reported 225 new cases of COVID-19 this past Saturday, its highest one-day total since the pandemic began.

On Sunday, Tulsa County reported 89 new cases, the largest single-day increase since the state had its first case on March 6th.

Today, Vice President Pence wrote an op-ed in the @WSJ
touting America’s success in fighting the coronavirus writing, “...we are winning the fight against the invisible enemy.”

Let’s break down some of his claims this week. (2/24)..........

compared to last week, 22 states are seeing a decline in daily cases, 10 are stable, but 18 states have an increase of cases. (4/24).........

PENCE: “Some of the increase in cases you're seeing in states is a reflection of a dramatic increase in testing." (6/24).......
That’s not how this works. This may seem counter intuitive, but if you are doing enough testing, cases should start to go down because you are finding people early before they spread it. ..........

PENCE: “In recent days, the media has taken to sounding the alarm bells over a “second wave” of coronavirus infections. Such panic is overblown.” (13/24).......
The truth is - we are still in the thick of the first wave, technically, so we cannot even begin talking about what a second wave might look like. ........
And we know that President Trump is planning to hold an indoor rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma where the venue can hold around 20,000 people. He also plans to utilize the convention hall next door that can hold an additional 40,000 people. (19/24)
CDC guidelines for events or gatherings would classify this rally as a high risk event considering it’s indoors, there will be attendees from outside the local area and it’ll be difficult to practice social distancing. (20/24).....

Is this the second wave of COVID-19 in the U.S.? Or are we still in the first?

"We still got a big puddle there," one expert said.

......."A second wave implies that the first wave has disappeared and reappeared," said Loren Lipworth, an epidemiologist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. "I don't think that is what we're seeing here in the U.S."

Instead, the U.S. appears to be going through a constant chain of smaller spikes. Lipworth referred to them as "waves of infection" rather than one big, cresting wave that has come and gone.

While cases have significantly decreased in the hardest-hit states, New York and New Jersey,

they're increasing in states like Arkansas, Arizona and South Carolina.

Those states "didn't have much disease activity early in the pandemic but are now seeing an upswing," said Caitlin Rivers, an epidemiologist at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security.

In other words, their first waves are just beginning. ..............

Welcome To The Mask Wars

Localities are moving in different directions on whether to require masks to slow the spread of COVID-19. It’s creating a national divide with deadly consequences.

.........Medical experts say masks are key to staying safe from coronavirus, in tandem with other measures like hand-washing and social distancing, and the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people wear them in public settings where they will be exposed to others.

Political leaders who oppose mask rules appear to be out of touch with public sentiment. Nearly 80% of Americans surveyed by the research firm Navigator from June 11 to June 15 said they worry that other people’s failure to use masks and follow social distancing guidelines will bolster the coronavirus. That included 64% of the Republicans and 93% of the Democrats surveyed. Seventy-seven percent of Americans are already using masks to some extent when leaving home,.........

.....The pushback to mask mandates takes two forms. Abbott offered an example of the genteel strain, which acknowledges the risk of the coronavirus but condemns the idea of a requirement. “All of us have a collective responsibility to educate the public that wearing a mask is the best thing to do,” the Texas governor said Tuesday. “Putting people in jail, however, is the wrong approach for this thing.”

The other brand of criticism is more explosive, particularly if it continues to gain popularity and avoid scrutiny under the cover of more polished messaging.

Residents of multiple areas considering or implementing mask requirements see the policy as verging on totalitarian and themselves as freedom fighters. ..........

....“It’s disheartening to see people who disagree with the order go from attacking the order to attacking the officer to questioning their motivation, expertise and patriotism,” Kat DeBurgh, the executive director of the Health Officers Association of California, told the news services. “That’s not something that should ever happen.”

California issues statewide order to wear face coverings in high-risk settings amid COVID pandemic

==================================================

This is 100% the right move. This will help us beat this terrible virus. The science is unanimous

- if we all wear masks, we slow down the spread and can reopen safely.

It’s not a political issue.

Anyone making it a political issue is an absolute moron who can’t read.

I guess it's too late for Tucker to watch " Sesame Street " oh, maybe that's why he hates it so much.

6 Trump campaign members in Tulsa test positive for the coronavirus ahead of rally

The news comes as Trump, the White House and the president's re-election campaign organization have been criticized for hosting an event in an enclosed, 19,000-seat arena in Tulsa.

===========================================================

If *six members* of the Trump 2020 campaign advance team have already contracted coronavirus while moving through the same space 19,000 people are about to enter—and they contracted it while far fewer people were in the area—why in hell is this event not being canceled right now?

"Tulsa County, AZ set a third-straight daily record for new coronavirus cases this weekend just as thousands of rallygoers descend upon the city for President Donald Trump's first campaign rally in months.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health said statewide total coronavirus cases since the pandemic began in March surpassed 10,000 over the weekend, with 331 new positive cases being reported since Friday. In Tulsa County, the site of Trump's Saturday rally at the BOK Center, 136 new positive cases and one additional death were reported.

Health officials did not tie the political rally to the sudden burst of new COVID-19 cases, but supporters of the president in line for the sold-out event embraced Trump's flippant view .........

As face mask requirements pop back up across Texas,

Gov. Greg Abbott faces criticism from local leaders and fellow Republicans

State and local officials disagree on whether mandating businesses to require employees and customers to wear face masks is a small burden or a threat to their freedom.

Counties and cities across Texas swiftly followed Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff's lead this week after he ordered businesses — without opposition from Gov. Greg Abbott — to require employees and customers wear face masks when social distancing is not possible.

Although the governor issued an executive order June 3 banning local governments from imposing fines or criminal penalties on people who don't wear masks in public, Abbott on Wednesday commended Wolff for putting the onus for face masks on businesses. In an interview with KWTX, Abbott said the local official "finally figured that out."

"Government cannot require individuals to wear masks," he added. "Local governments can require stores and business to require masks. That’s what was authorized in my plan."...........
