Remembering Front-Line Workers Lost To COVID-19

"It has been five months since the novel coronavirus started infecting Americans. Since then, the U.S. has lost more than 120,000 people to the sickness it causes — COVID-19.

So many have been touched by the deaths of family and friends.

Here we remember just a few of those who continued working during the pandemic because their jobs called for it and who, ultimately, lost their lives. ........

Brazilian Judge Orders President Jair Bolsonaro To Wear Mask Due To COVID-19

A judge ruled that Bolsonaro would have to pay a $387 fine each day he continued to go maskless

".........On other fronts, Bolsonaro has openly defied the consensus among public health experts for slowing the outbreak.

The president has criticized lockdown and social-distancing orders issued by governors and mayors, saying their economic damage is worse than the disease. Echoing U.S. President Donald Trump, Bolsonaro has also pushed unproven anti-malarial drugs to treat the novel coronavirus.

But his most visible defiance has been going mask-less at a string of demonstrations in Brasilia, holding babies for photos and shaking hands with supporters.......

Some Illinois Salons, Gyms Requiring Waivers, But Should You Sign Them?

A Northwestern legal expert weighs in on whether the documents hold up in court-

"..........."Basically asking the question, how do you know whether you contracted the virus in this particular nail salon or in this particular restaurant? You truly don’t know," he said.

According to the professor, the law generally does enforce waivers under the idea of the assumption of risk. But if it's up to a jury, they may not see a waiver as sufficient or appropriate if real people who got sick are involved.

While he says litigation will likely increase as the pandemic continues, so will the use of waivers.

"The fundamental risk to waivers is it will create a certain amount of sloppiness on the part of businesses," said Rodriguez. "If businesses become confident they will be shielded from liability, the risk customers face, quite frankly,

is businesses will be less diligent, less focused, and less able to take the kinds of precautions that will really protect them.".......

I have some smug snowbird friends in Florida who extended their stay down there because they thought it  would be safer. If they don't get home to NY by midnight tonight, they'll have to quarantine for 14 days.

Goes far, far, far beyond people going to Myrtle Beach.  BUT, the biggest problem is that Trump and the GOPers are pushing for beaches, bars, restaurants and everything else to open up - WIDE OPEN.  And of course the business community is pushing just as hard for full re-openings.

When you say "our slight increase," are you speaking as a South Carolinian?  The greatest increase in S.C. is actually in Greenville-other end of the state.

If the decision to wear a mask is about “personal freedom,”

why do these people get *so angry*

at someone’s free choice to wear one?

Fauci makes a plea to all Americans.

If you get it, even inadvertently, you are part of process of infection that could badly hurt or kill someone’s grandparent or a kid with leukemia.
It’s not just about you.
