White House seeks to discredit Fauci as coronavirus surges

Many of the statements the White House criticizes Fauci for were based on the best available data at the time and were widely echoed by Trump and other officials.

......It was a move more characteristic of a political campaign furtively disseminating opposition research about an opponent than of a White House struggling to contain a pandemic that has killed more than 135,000 people,....

New York Times/Sienna College poll last month found that 2 in 3 registered voters approved of Fauci, including half of Republicans and 4 in 5 Democrats. Trump, by comparison, enjoyed support of his handling of the crisis from only 1 in 4 voters in the same poll, including just 4 percent of Democrats.............

That's a good question.

Technically it's incorrect English.

But traditionally that's simply a general way of expressing a national leader's opinion diplomatically.

I always wondered if Buckingham Palace had a brain and was actually controlling the queen.

But whenever she has a response to something and it's indirect--

it's according to Buckingham Palace.

At the moment I wonder what Buckingham Palace thinks about Prince Andrew and the arrest of Ghislaine Maxwell in New York City.

The Palace has not responded but Prince Andrew did not go abroad for an annual holiday for fear of the US law.

What times we live in.

Too me this is sloppy journalism;   Instead of "White House",  just name the person in the Trump admin that  is making these crazy comments.

(you appear to be implying it is Trump himself,  which could be true,,,  but then that should be mentioned instead of '"White House").

The White House and Buckingham Palace press secretaries or communication directors are not hired to practice journalism, although of course they probably come from a journalism background in order to know how to best deal with journalists. They are hired to be spokespersons or public relations representatives for the national leaders.

Public relations is the illegitimate child of Journalism and certainly has a lot more leeway in what is considered to be ethical or expected.

However, a good press secretary for a national leader is expected to present information in a timely and as honest manner as the leader desires.

OK, James lighten up.  Every news organization uses "White House" said and has for many years.   It is how they identify it as an official communication from the seat of power of the US without providing a specific name.  In many cases, the person who issued the communication is probably unknown to 99% of the American people.

The assumption is that the president either approved the communication or knows about the subject matter.  OR that one of his senior officials is behind the communication.  In either case, the president is responsible for the subject matter of the communication.  The buck stops there.

The re-closing comes just days after Disney executives cited the reopening of its parks in Asia
as evidence that Disney World could reopen in Florida safely,

CBS: "What do you tell parents and teachers who feel that it's unsafe to go back?"

Trump: "... You should find yourself a new person whoever's in charge ... because children and parents are dying from that trauma, too.

They're DYING  because they can't do what they're doing."

I think this is the big story.  The Novarro anti Fauci op ed orchestrated by Donald Trump is the distraction which the media are eating up.  But I can't see whistleblowers leaving this alone.
