Savannah Mayor Van Johnson said he was "furious" and "at a loss for words" when he heard GA Gov. Brian Kemp was suspending local mask mandates.

"Not only are we fighting coronavirus on one hand,

it appears as if we're fighting our state on the other hand"

I certainly wouldn't be surprised if the calls between the Trump White House and Brian Kemp have been coming fast and furious

since Trump got called out for violating Atlanta's mask ordinance on CNN.

This has "Trump distracting himself with petty vendettas" written all over it.

In 1918, mask wearing immediately became of a symbol of wartime patriotism.

A @RedCross

PSA stated bluntly, “the man or woman or child who won’t wear a mask now is a dangerous slacker,” calling into question the patriotism of those who refused.

https://influenzaarchive.org/cities/city-sa

".........Mayor Rolph told the public that “conscience, patriotism and self-protection demand immediate and rigid compliance” with the mask order.8

California governor William Stephens echoed this language a day later with his own public service announcement, telling Californians it was the “patriotic duty for every American citizen” to wear a mask, a “duty which each citizen can easily perform to our country and our State” in a campaign against influenza that “must be fought.”9

By drawing on the rhetoric and imagery of the war effort and the heavy-handed patriotism that went along with it, city and state health officials hoped to inveigle if not outright bully residents into compliance. .........."

Because Trump and the GOPers have turned it into a political issue.

Incidentally, avoid people who have traveled to S.C. where majority of people in tourist destinations are NOT wearing masks or practicing social distancing.

MASKS OFF: HOW THE BROTHERS WHO FUELED THE REOPEN PROTESTS BUILT A VOLATILE FAR-RIGHT NETWORK

"......... the four Dorr brothers started a slew of Facebook groups, joined by hundreds of thousands of members, that have helped to fuel skepticism about health precautions and pushed for states to open prematurely. In a country where the simple act of wearing a mask has become a political statement, the people who organize against masks are worth watching.....

Coronavirus face masks: Why men are less likely to wear masks

..........That's despite the fact that Covid-19 has infected more than 13.8 million people and killed more than 590,000 according to the widely-used Johns Hopkins University database.

And in the vast majority of countries where data is available, death rates are notably higher among men.

The scientific advice has been shifting in favour of masks as evidence emerges that the coronavirus is airborne - and may spread via tiny particles suspended in the air as well as larger droplets from coughs or sneezes............

......."If overconfidence is the problem, then it could help to make men aware of the statistics, and show them that they suffer more from Covid than women," she says......

If we take it seriously that men on average are less altruistic and more selfish, then communication should focus less on protecting others and more on protecting oneself," says Dr Gravert.

A happy ending

But there is also evidence that peer pressure may work -..........

Trump administration seeking to block funding for CDC, contact tracing and testing in new relief bill:

:(

Anyone in the White House who is trying to cut funding for states to do testing and tracing,
Or wants to cut funding for the CDC,

May not need help getting tested themselves (they get all personal tests they want),

But they should have their heads examined.
