"..........On the 6th of January 1777, George Washington wrote to Dr. William Shippen Jr., ordering him to inoculate all of the forces that came through Philadelphia. He explained that: "Necessity not only authorizes but seems to require the measure, for should the disorder infect the Army . . . we should have more to dread from it, than from the Sword of the Enemy." Smallpox was a far deadlier killer than covid, has been the scourge of mankind  Before the introduction of a smallpox vaccine , on average 7.6% (1-in-13) of all deaths were caused by smallpox.

Washington's army (what little he already had of one) would had been desimated.

Besides, they had no Constitutional rights / protections until 1787 if any of his men refused.

(oh disobeying Washington could had one hanged)

The S.C. state legislature (with support from governor) banned all educational institutions from requiring masks or vaccination proof.  The University of South Carolina issued regulations that ALL students have to wear masks, vaccinated or not.  Going to be interesting.

You worded that to put it with the same distinction with racial segregation which it is not.  Separation, quarantining, has been used for thousand of years to contain / stop the spread of disease. Vaccines would had been a godsend to those in the past.

Hey Andrew, if you had the Bubonic Plague, you want to have the right to share it with the rest of us?

Morning Update: Mounting desperation in Africa as vaccine shortage persists

CAORA MCKENNA

Good morning,

As deaths and illnesses escalate in Zimbabwe, its citizens are increasingly frantic to get vaccinated. But as lineups grow longer, the wait can be exhausting and many people are turned away. Some say they are resorting to unofficial methods to jump the queues: bribes or political connections. Others pay hefty fees at private clinics to get faster access.

At Parirenyatwa General Hospital in Harare, 300 people waited for a vaccination they’re not even sure has arrived. “I’m tired, but I have no choice,” said 26-year-old Tracy Nechavava. “I need the vaccine, because people are dying.”

Only four per cent of Africans have received any vaccine at all, while third and fourth waves surge in many countries on the continent. WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has called for a moratorium on COVID-19 vaccine booster shots in wealthy countries to give the rest of the world a chance to hit the World Health Organization’s minimum goal of having 10 per cent of poorer countries vaccinated.

Insurance companies are now considering changing policies to reflect higher co-pays and less coverage for the unvaccinated.

Moderna is considering booster shots, but no firm decision yet.

Yes and I hope they do. Car insurance companies raise the rates for those who are a danger on the road,  and smokers pay more on their policies, why shouldn't health insurance and life insurance companies do the same with unvaccinated people who are a danger to themselves and everyone else. If logic can't get through to them, maybe getting hit in the wallet may convince them once and for all to get vaccinated.
