LawrenceA
American writer-director Stuart Gordon has died. He was an acclaimed figure in the Chicago theater for years before starting an idiosyncratic second career as the director of a string of memorable horror films beginning with 1985's Re-Animator. That was followed by the equally impressive From Beyond (1986), and the cult favorite Dolls (1987). Later films included the sci-fi Robot Jox (1990), a re-imagining of Poe's The Pit and the Pendulum (1991), the sci-fi prison flick Fortress (1992), Castle Freak (1995) for Full Moon Pictures, Space Truckers (1996), The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit (1998), Dagon (2001), King of the Ants (2003), Edmond (2003), and the true-crime black comedy Stuck (2007), which proved to be his final film. He also received writing credits on higher profile mainstream films like Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989), and Body Snatchers (1993). He also directed three episodes of the TV series Masters of Horror/Fear Itself.
