jjelmquist
I agree! I'm a long-time fan of the original series, and a bit of a purist when it comes to things like this. Example - I will only watch the theatrical release versions of Star Wars; can't stand Lucas' "enhanced" versions. Although I've enjoyed all the various incarnations of Ridley Scott's Blade Runner. Anyway...I have loved these new enhanced Star Trek episodes. It's been really fun watching them for the new additions, changes, etc. So far I haven't seen anything that I think is too much, too over the top, etc. In my opinion it all blends pretty seamlessly and often times truly enhances the experience, sometimes improving the relationship between images and storyline. Sometimes I've actually been surprised that they didn't change more. Example: "Balance of Terror" when the Romulan ship is beaten - its the new cgi ship, but they sill have it "hanging there" as if hanging from a string, as in the original version. I was expecting them to show the ship more realistically - with burns, damage, sections missing, etc. My kids have really enjoyed these too. They're becoming Trekkers just like their Dad. Looking forward to Season Two next month!!
joefilmone
Wisely the respected they treated the original effect work with respect-they simply made it better. Glad to hear a new generation is discovering enjoying these classic sci-fi adventures.
HollywoodGolightly
I'd agree - if they're going to enhance the special effects, make it as subtle as possible, don't make it look like something you'd see on a TV show being made today. We like the original "Star Trek" precisely because it's vintage sci-fi (relatively speaking).

HollywoodGolightly
Guess what I got for Christmas? Well, let's just say I now have all 3 seasons of the original series, and all 10 of the older Star Trek movies -- all on blu-ray! Haven't had time to start watching them yet, and probably won't until January, but I'm already very excited and looking forward to a ST marathon.
