Hello all!

I'm hoping that someone here can help me. I told my dad that I would help him find the name of a western film or TV episode that he saw when he was a little kid (born in 1966). There is one scene he recalls from it which he describes as a scene between a young person and an adult. They're standing on a porch watching a man ride away on a horse into the sunset. The older one tells the younger one something along the lines of "Don't watch him ride out of sight or else you'll never see him again." He seems to think this was the last scene of the movie/episode. He saw this on TV but he doesn't remember if it was a show or a film and he doesn't remember who played in it or if it was in color or black and white. He wants to know the name of this movie/show because he watched it with his father who has recently passed and is interested in watching it again. I know this isn't much to go off of. I tried to search around  online to find it myself but haven't had any luck. If anyone here can help, it would mean a lot to me. Thanks 😀

Sorry for your loss, Brandon. I've been looking around. It sounds more like a movie than a show. The kind where the cowboy befriends a kid/teenager and then has to leave, and Dad doesn't approve of the drifter lifestyle. My first thought was Shane. My dad is close to the same age as yours (1961) and he remembers watching Shane as a kid with his dad. But that would be too obvious. It still doesn't sound right.

Could it have been a Hopalong Cassidy movie? They could have been showing them in the 60's and 70's. "Don't watch him ride out of sight or else you'll never see him again," sounds sentimental. Like, "The man will always be in your memory."

Thank you for helping me! I agree that it does sound very similar to Shane and that was the first movie I thought of also.
