Howard Keel plays dual roles  Sketch Barnes and Smokey Callaway in Callaway Went Thataway

Margot Kidder plays twins Danielle and Dominique in the scary Brian de Palma's film Sisters. This one really creeped me out when I saw it in a theater when it was first released. TCM shows Sisters, if you like scary, slasher films, this one is for you.

Douglas Fairbanks Jr. as THE CORSICAN BROTHERS. They're twins, physically joined at birth then separated from each other for years, without knowing of the other's existence. But one is haunted by unexplained visions involving the other one and can feel physical pain when his brother is injured.

Two doses of bad acting (thought Jonathan Frakes' acting was very stilted).  Picard, Kirk and Spock have also had lookalikes (episode of Star Trek with parallel evil universe is one, also the third-year one in the insane asylum).  Also thought of Chaplin playing The Great Dictator (don't know if that would qualify.  Soap operas have had so many evil twins or lookalikes due to storyline revisions, etc.

Can't find that lost 1960's TV episode where a man was duplicated by a transporter accident (not Kirk!) who's soul was missing in the copy.  He was euphanized at the end.

Can't find any references on the internet. :(

Don't forget that STUPID plot for bringing back Bobby in "Dallas".

Before his comeback, Jimmy Swaggart sarcastically said....Bobby is gone.

A more recent and popular doppelganger movie is Us (2019), directed by Jordan Peele.  It kind of builds on the premise of the old Twilight Zone episode "Mirror Image," in which a woman (Vera Miles in the TZ, Lupita Nyong'o here) fears she has a double who is after her.  I had some issues with the way this story develops in the second half, particularly with regards to several revelations made, but it's a generally creepy movie with TWO excellent performances from Nyong'o.

Marion Davies plays twins separated at birth in Lights of Old Broadway (1925). One becomes a society girl while the other becomes a stage actress.

In Show People (1928) Marion Davies plays an actress trying to break into films. She runs into stars like Charlie Chaplin, Norman Kerry, and ... Marion Davies!

Is Susan Kane a doppelganger of Davies?

If we are to include television science-fiction programs:

Tatiana Maslany plays fourteen characters in: Orphan Black (2013–2017). They are: Sarah Manning, Cosima Niehaus, Alison Hendrix, Helena, Rachel Duncan, Elizabeth "Beth" Childs, Krystal Goderitch, Veera "M.K." Suominen, Pupok, Katja Obinger, Tony Sawicki, Jennifer Fitzsimmons, Church Clone and Camilla Torres. They are all clones.

Other examples are Twice Blessed similar to Parent Trap. Scapegoat with Alec Giuness. William Shatner   in a movie where he played two half-breed brothers. Andy Hardy had trouble with twin sisters when he went to college.Eddie Cantor in the movie Thank Your Lucky Stars played himself  and  a bus driver.

Scapegoat is Daphne De M. isn't it.  Too bad Alec Guiness will be best remembered for playing Obi Wan.  He plays multiple part in Kind Hearts and Coronets.  There is also a movie with Cliff Robertson and G. Bujold where she resembles his late wife (just looked up - Obsession (Brian De Palma).

Ronald Coleman played both roles in The Prisoner of Zenda (two different characters).

See also The Masquerader (1933), in which Colman plays both a member of Parliament with a nasty drink and drug habit, and his lookalike cousin.

Back when Jay Leno and David Letterman were still speaking to each other, on Dave's 80's NBC show, Leno used to bring a TV Guide and do found-humor routines--

One was picking on the rash of "Evil twins" showing up in 80's series, like Michael Knight's evil doppelgänger on "Knight Rider", that the phrase of "(***)'s Evil Twin" entered our national vocabulary.

Later, Leno noticed that shows were using the same plot (for actors who self-indulgently wanted to play villains for a change), only now, characters were meeting their "Sinister lookalikes".    The new PC term, as Leno assumed.

Olivia de Havilland plays twins in The Dark Mirror

Not generally known is that there is a 1920 film, also entitled The Dark Mirror, which features Dorothy Dalton in the role of twin sisters. One of the sisters can sense the troubles of the other sister, and the plot involves crime and murder.  The story is based upon a novel of the same name. The complete film is held in the Library of Congress. It would be nice if TCM could  dig it up. There is no connection to the de Havilland film.
