Trump's new Postal Service?

CNN

Louis DeJoy says the US Postal Service isn't "slowing down" election-related or other mail and will undergo an "organizational realignment" after the agency has faced doubts over its capacity to handle anticipated high numbers of mail-in ballots.

Local residents complain of mail delivery issues

............"Business as usual if a package says it was going to have to be there in two days. It would get there in two days. Now, I would say my flat rate or two day priority takes about seven business days," she said.

The complaints come a month into the tenure of a new postmaster general who vowed change. He's instituted massive cuts, including overtime to the cash-strapped service. Lately, those changes are leaving mail like bills, checks, bank statements, and packages waiting for days.

A spokesman for the postal service tells FOX 29, “We are flexing our available resources to match the workload created by the impacts of the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic;.......

Postal Service loses $2.2B in 3 months as virus woes persist

Financial losses are mounting at the U.S. Postal Service during the coronavirus pandemic

........"Our financial position is dire, stemming from substantial declines in mail volume, a broken business model and a management strategy that has not adequately addressed these issues,'' DeJoy told the postal board of governors at a meeting Friday.

"Without dramatic change, there is no end in sight,'' DeJoy said.

While package deliveries to homebound Americans were up more than 50%, that was offset by continued declines in first-class and business mail, even as costs increased significantly to pay for personal protective equipment and replace workers who got sick or chose to stay home in fear of the virus, DeJoy said.

Without an intervention from Congress, the agency faces an impending cash flow crisis, he said........

A July directive eliminated overtime for hundreds of thousands of postal workers and mandated that mail be kept until the next day if distribution centers are running late.

Lawmakers from BOTH parties want Postal Service to undo changes that are slowing mail

lawmakers are increasingly focus on the Postal Service, which is reeling from mail delays and financial problems as record numbers of ballots are expected in the November presidential election.

........ changes imposed by the new, Republican postmaster general "threaten the timely delivery of mail — including medicines for seniors, paychecks for workers and absentee ballots for voters — that is essential to millions of Americans.''......

The cost-cutting measures, intended to address the Postal Service's longtime financial problems, were imposed last month after DeJoy, a Republican fundraiser and former supply-chain executive, took over the top job in June.
DeJoy, 63, of North Carolina, is a major donor to President Donald Trump and the Republican Party. He is the first postmaster general in nearly two decades who is not a career postal employee..........

My mail is definitely slowing down.  In particular have noticed that the medications I receive by mail from three different sources used to come in 3-5 days.  Now it is 7-10 days.

Also, items that I order take at least a week longer.

Time for Trump to activate the Reserves and National Guard and send them into the post offices.  In fact, they are even postal units in the Reserves and Guard.

Trump's plan to be implemented by his totally unqualified appointee is to make USPS so bad that Congress will permit it's being privatized.   Just as the railroads made passenger service so bad that people welcomed the government taking it over.  Incidentally, Amtrak is under same "cost cutting" methods that drive customers away.

"Friday Night Massacre" at US Postal Service: Postmaster General boots top brass ahead of election

The Postmaster General — a major Trump donor — suddenly ousted the Postal Service's top officials

"Government watchdogs, Democratic lawmakers, and pro-democracy advocates declared it a "Friday Night Massacre" for the U.S. Postal Service after news broke in a classic end-of-the-week dump that Louis DeJoy—a major GOP donor to President Donald Trump and the recently appointed Postmaster General—had issued a sweeping overhaul of the agency, including the ouster of top executives from key posts and the reshuffling of more than two dozen other officials and operational managers.

"Trump is actively sabotaging the election under our noses—this isn't theoretical, it's happening RIGHT NOW." —

......Twenty-three postal executives were reassigned or displaced, the new organizational chart shows.

Analysts say the structure centralizes power around DeJoy, a former logistics executive and major ally of President Trump, and de-emphasizes decades of institutional postal knowledge. All told, 33 staffers included in the old postal hierarchy either kept their jobs or were reassigned in the restructuring, with five more staffers joining the leadership from other roles.

Already under fire for recent policy changes at the USPS that mail carriers from within and outside critics have denounced as a sabotage effort to undermine the Postal Service broadly as well as disrupt efforts to carry out mail-in voting for November's election amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the moves unveiled late Friday were viewed as an overt assault on democracy

and a calculated opportunity to boost Republicans' long-held dream of undercutting or privatizing the government-run mail service while also boosting their election prospects in the process.........

80 congressional lawmakers who sent a letter to DeJoy earlier in the day expressing "deep concerns" about operational changes he has made for mail carriers that have delayed deliveries and lowered standards.

"It is vital that the U.S. Postal Service not reduce mail delivery times, which could harm rural communities, seniors, small businesses, and millions of Americans who rely on the mail for critical letters and packages," the letter stated.

"Eliminating overtime and directing postal workers to leave mail on the floor of postal facilities will erode confidence in the Postal Service and drive customers away, resulting in even worse financial conditions in the future.".........

chair of the House subcommittee which has oversight for the USPS, said what DeJoy is trying to pass off as simple organizational restructuring is actually "a Trojan Horse" designed to destroy one of the nation's most trusted and valued institutions from within.

Connolly on Friday night called it, "Deliberate sabotage to disrupt mail service on the eve of the election—an election that hinges on mail-in ballots."........

More evidence that Trump and the GOP are doing all they can to sabotage the elections in November.  It is deliberate and intentional.

1) USPS cannot “lose money” any more than the DOD or DOT can.

2) A stupid old law makes USPS pre-fund pensions with cash - something no other agency must do, just to make it look like a big loser.

3) Government shouldn’t have to pay for itself with fee revenue.

‘We see it here every day’: How a slowdown in the Postal Service is impacting small businesses

"............business owners like Goldstone want to draw attention to the business sector. In an open letter to the Post Office, he said millions of small businesses could be impacted because of the “devastating” delays.

According to a 2019 USPS report, 70% of the smallest businesses – those with fewer than 10 employees – use the Post Office regularly and spend an average $359 a month on shipping.

Bipartisan calls for action

The USPS operates as a self-supporting federal agency – part independent business and part government agency. It likes to tout that it gets no tax dollars in normal times.

But two factors – a drop in demand during the pandemic and a mandate in the Postal Act of 2006, which advocates say puts “the Postal Service in a straight jacket” financially – mean it’s on the verge of running out of money as early as this year. ..........

Yes.  Not only that my wife's comes from another source and they are delayed.  Many people do not realize that insurers and the US GOVERNMENT are pushing people toward receiving medications via the US POSTAL SERVICE.  If you do not, you have to pay extra to get it or you have to file for a separate payment, which will have a higher co-pay.

The Post Office Is Deactivating Mail Sorting Machines Ahead of the Election

Good thing nobody's predicting a huge surge in mail any time soon.

".........19 mail sorting machines from five processing facilities across the U.S. that either have already been removed or are scheduled to be in the near future. But the Postal Service operates hundreds of distribution facilities around the country, so it is not clear precisely how many machines are getting removed and for what purpose.

Even to local union officials, USPS has not announced any policy, explained why they are doing this, what will happen to the machines and the workers who use them. Nor has management provided a rationale for dismantling and removing the machines from the facility rather than merely not operating them when they’re not needed.........

election mail is often sorted by hand to ensure it gets handled promptly and properly, but this seems to vary by location.

That being said, this would only be a problem for voters who waited until the last minute to send back their ballots.

If mail-in ballots are sent and returned over a period of weeks instead of days, it is unlikely, the postal workers said, to stress the machines even if some are taken away.

“We would have the capacity to run the volume of ballots that are expected if we have it in a longer period of time,” ............

Ironically, even the military personnel lobbying organizations are working to get Congress to increase funding for Postal Service - that's a first.  They recognize that the Trump postal service will be a disaster for personnel serving, their dependents and retirees.

Trump's war against the Postal Service could have another casualty:

tens of thousands of military veterans with disabilities

  • Tens of thousands of military veterans employed by the US Postal Service are on the front lines of a bureaucratic conflict amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
  • USPS is one of the largest employers of veterans nationwide: Nearly 100,000 military veterans are employed by the agency, or about 15% of its entire workforce.
  • The agency estimated that at least 60% of its veteran employees have a disability rating.
  • "The post office wants its mail delivered every day," a Marine Corps veteran who works as a letter carrier said. "If you're a veteran, you know about a mission, and you know about completeness. And they want it done every day. So a lot of them take pride in that."

trump and Mitch McConnell's GOP have tried to attack, dismembered, or otherwise destroy the basic integrity of just about every institution that people rely upon in the federal government--

And now it's the US Post Office's turn.

trump has had the Un-Midas Touch on:

The US Department of Education/The public schools

FEMA

The US Department of Justice

The US State Department

The CDC

The FBI

HUD/ federal public housing

VA

Homeland Security

Social Security and Medicare

SNAP and Medicaid

Obamacare

Department of the interior

And many more.

No matter who you are, one of these if not more Federal entities affect you personally.

YES. The mail guy always gets the addresses wrong. He gave me a food mixing machine or something (I'm not even sure whose it is) meant for someone with this really foreign sounding name. It was left right there at my door and the address is only one number away. Also I had to order the 1001 Arabian Nights book twice because it was mailed to me but never delivered the first time. I wouldn't be surprised if it was delivered to that other guy's house by mistake.

And a reminder, almost all disabled veterans receive their medications through the US Postal Service.  Medications which keep many alive and provide quality of life for all.  Many personnel on active duty and their dependents also receive medicine through the mail.

Trump has openly admitted his war with the Postal Service is because he is afraid of mail-in voting and that he might lose the election.   He appointed the US Postal Service commission members and the money Pelosi and Dems included in pandemic request is EXACTLY what the Trump appointees said they needed.

The Founding Fathers considered the Post Office to be as important as the Army, the Navy, the President and Congress.  That is why it is enshrined in the US Constitution.

Trump has declared war on the American people solely because he is afraid he will lose a fair election.

Just a reminder.  Many products ordered online are delivered by UPS, etc. to a Postal Service distribution center for delivery to your home.

If Trump really believes so little in the USPS, why doesn't he, his election committee, the RNC and ALL Republicans stop sending me stuff through the mail?
