"This Man's Navy" (1945)

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else seen this movie?  I just watched it yesterday.  It was so good!  I can't believe it only got 6.4 out of 10 stars on IMDB.  I mean, I guess I can kind of see why.  The story line is pretty far-fetched and it's a bit too silly at times, but it's such a sweet movie.  It's a nice, feel-good,  light-hearted drama.  Wallace Beery plays a guy who's always having to one-up his fellow buddies in the navy.  He brags about his "son" who doesn't even exist.  When he runs into a young man, (played by Tom Drake), he "adopts" him without telling him and coaxes him into joining the navy along side of him so he can show him off to his buddies.

It's so neat that the movie focuses on "U.S. Naval Airships", (blimps), or the "Lighter than Air" branch of the Navy.  I've never even knew it even existed before I saw this movie.  It was absolutely fascinating.
