Glenn Close talks about her role in 'Hillbilly Elegy' Video - ABC News

Say what you will about Glenn Close's record of futility at the Academy Awards, the veteran actress continues to impress in one respect. She is now one of the 14 performers who have received at least eight Oscar nominations for acting. They are:
  • Meryl Streep (21 nominations, three wins).
  • Katharine Hepburn (12 nominations, four wins).
  • Jack Nicholson (12 nominations, three wins).
  • Bette Davis (10 nominations, two wins).
  • Sir Laurence Olivier (10 nominations, one win).
  • Spencer Tracy (nine nominations, two wins).

  • Paul Newman (nine nominations, one win).

  • Jack Lemmon (eight nominations, two wins).
  • Geraldine Page (eight nominatons, one win).
  • Peter O'Toole (eight nominations, no wins).
  • Close (eight nominations, no wins).

Close received her latest nomination last week for her supporting performance in "Hillbilly Elegy," directed by Ron Howard and based on the best-selling memoir by  J.D. Vance. Interestingly, her co-star in the film is Amy Adams (pictured below with Close), who is winless in six Academy Award nominations.

Some things to consider before the 93rd annual Academy Awards ceremony, which will air  Sunday, April 25, 2021 on ABC:

At the 26th Academy Awards held on March 26, 1954, Walt Disney received six nominations for films in the animated, live-action short and documentary categories. He won four Oscars, still the record for the most wins by one person in a single evening.

Chloé Zhao, the Chinese-born filmmaker who has dominated the current awards season with her drama film "Nomadland," has a better-than-average chance to tie  Disney's record.

Zhao has been nominated for four 2020 Academy Awards:
  • Best Picture for "Nomadland" ( shared with Frances McDormand, Peter Spears, Mollye Asher and Dan Janvey).
  • Best Director for "Nomadland"
  • Best Adapted Screenplay for "Nomadland"
  • Best Film Editing for "Nomadland"

He'll accept the lifetime achievement award during the 19th VES Awards. “Sir Peter Jackson is one of the most innovative filmmakers of our generation. Peter pushes the known boundaries of filmmaking and his vision and contributions to the art are legendary"

Ratings are gonna be brutal.  They've been going down rapidly of late anyway, all the ratings for coronavirus award shows have been dismal, and almost nobody has seen any of these movies.

...and to make matters worse, during the month before the Oscars, many theaters show the nominated films/documentaries/animated films, but in many places theaters are just starting to reopen, so they are only showing new releases and only a few time per day.

Aw, #GeorgeSegal. While his sitcom elder work of the last couple centuries is fine, he really excelled at playing the seemingly square guy with a lot going on underneath in the great, culture shift films of the '60s, '70s and even up to the mid-'90s (like #FlirtingwithDisaster).

The screen drama "Nomadland," based on a nonfiction book about Americans traveling the West without permanent homes, won the top prize Wednesday night at the 32nd annual Producers Guild of America Awards.

The 2020 award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures went to Frances McDormand (also the movie's star), Peter Spears, Mollye Asher, Dan Janvey and Chloé  Zhao, who also adapted the book and directed the film).

Spears accepted the prize during a virtual ceremony. "In a year where we have all been leading such isolated lives and movies felt so vital, we are proud to have produced a film about community and what connects us," he said. "But this was only possible because of the hearts and hands you see here that came together to make this movie. You honor the entire 'Nomadland' company with this award.”

The PGA award is considered a bellwether of a film's chances of winning the Academy Award for Best Picture. In the 32-year history of the awards, winners have gone on to win the top Oscar 21 times. But last year, the PGA chose "1917," while the Best Picture Oscar went to the South Korean film "Parasite."

^Did he die?  Is he getting an award?  What does the post above mean?

EDIT: Answered my own question, and in fact, he died.  Which just raises the question of why this was posted in "Awards Season 2021".

The answer is: So you'd know about it if you hadn't heard.  But you'll have go elsewhere for an obit.

The great French filmmaker, whose 1986 drama "'Round Midnight" received two Academy Award nominations, died Friday at the age of 79. Herbie Hancock won an Oscar for his score.

All sides are resigned to the fact that every Hollywood studio is going to experiment with different release models as long as the pandemic continues
