WSAZ news 11:00PM

JUST IN: Sen. McConnell on Capitol insurrection:

"The mob was fed lies. They were provoked by the president and other powerful people, and they tried to use fear and violence to stop a specific proceeding of the first branch of the federal government which they did not like."

========================================================

Once again, McConnell is a part of the Gang of 8.
He gets intelligence briefings, and knows way more than what we know on the investigation into 1/6.

What he says publicly is meaningful in terms of seriousness re Trump.

But let us not forget that Trump became what he became because McConnell was one of his chief enablers.

That didn't surprise me. As vile as these people are, many of them have jobs and lives and don't want the publicity that will now always come from their shenanigans.  Hopefully they will retreat back into the shadows, where they will always be part of the Republican "silent majority." Hillary Clinton got into trouble by calling these people Trump's "basket of deplorables." But that's what they are.

On the other hand, the Democratic Party has to show that it has a place for the non-college educated working class white man; that it's in the party's and the country's interest to bring them back into the fold. That's not going to appease the white supremacists, but it will make the party more diverse and weaken the Republican base.

I think their basic cowardice also played a part.  They realized that this time, Trump would not back them up and law enforcement was ready and waiting for them.  Perhaps it is finally beginning to sink in that Trump and many in the Republican Party were just using them.

While it is difficult for me to try to think like an idiot Trumper,  my guess is that there were few protesters because they realized that protesting was futile.    They protested on Jan 6th because they really believed Pence could "undo" the EC votes and declare Trump President.    As you note,  once it sunk in that Trump and his advisors like Rudy,  had just lied to them and that there was no way that Biden was going to not be President,   they had no choice but to move on (since the vast majority never had any intentions of trying to use violence to  overturn the election).

The Blonde on OUTNUMBERED said today, "Gosh, we made a mistake two weeks ago and the media won't let us forget it." What a howl!

Yes, the media went too far.  Why don't they just forget it?

Good luck any employer will forget one's criminal record while doing background checks.

The young women (Riley Williams)  that broke into the Capital and stole Pelosi laptop will be another witness in the Trump impeachment trial.    One key legal component to inciting a riot is that the speaker had to have an idea how those he was speaking too would interpret what they (Trump in this case) was as being said.    Here is the statement by her attorney:

"It is regrettable that Ms. Williams took the President's bait and went inside the Capitol. However, based on our initial investigation and preparation for today, it is our position that the allegations surrounding the theft of Speaker Pelosi's computer came in part from a former abusive boyfriend,"

Many of those charged have made similar comments.    These criminals don't have to be live witnesses at the Senate trial,  but the reading of their statements, one-after-the-other will be hard evidence that Trump had to know that the words he were speaking would be "bait".

 VILE are the GOP congressmembers who will not vote to convict the man personally responsible  for the assault on our capitol and our democracy.  He whipped up his base to storm the building and look for, among others, Mike Pence and Nancy Pelosi to be killed.

What was that you said about the GOP standing for law and order!!???  What a pathetic joke!!!
