A Child is Born

I just watched my DVR recording of "A Child is Born," shown on TCM on March 4th. There were lots of things wrong with this movie in my opinion (poor +/- annoying performances by the male actors and medical misinformation- even in the context of the era in which it was filmed). But the unbelievably puzzling aspect of this movie which I just had to comment about here is that none of the actresses looked pregnant! The movie is set in a maternity ward- all of the women are on the verge of giving birth. But they all have flat stomachs. There was no attempt- either through costume design or body padding to simulate pregnancy at all.  What were the filmmakers thinking? I was amazed.
