TV news ratings, online readership plunge during Biden's first 100 days

Broadcast and cable news ratings, along with website traffic, are all taking a hit in the post-Trump era.

During President Biden’s first 100 days in office, weekly full-day cable ratings for CNN and MSNBC have been trending down, according to statistics from ratings company Nielsen.

On average, 1.3 million household viewers were watching MSNBC in the last week of January, shortly after Biden took office. For the week ending April 25, that number was 868,000. At CNN, those figures went from 1.2 million to 749,000.

Even perennial ratings leader Fox News is seeing a decline, though a much smaller one compared to its cable competitors, dipping to just 1.2 million from 1.3 million in late January.

Prime-time cable viewership is also down across the board. In the same time comparisons as the full-day ratings, CNN has lost 792,000 viewers, while MSNBC is down 788,000 and Fox is short 348,000.

Network evening news isn’t faring any better. Ratings leader “World News Tonight” at ABC had 1.8 million fewer viewers in the seven days ending April 25 compared to the last week of January.

NBC’s “Nightly News,” in the No. 2 slot, lost 1.7 million viewers in that same period, while CBS is down 1.2 million.

Nothing is getting done just like with Obama's eight years so the decline is starting. After the mid-term elections the Republicans will gain seats because they'll have no one to blame for this loss (except for maybe the Russians >>> as always).

I'm not surprised that news ratings are down under Biden's Presidency. In fact I would have predicted it. Now that we have a more traditional, somewhat boring and NORMAL HUMAN BEING (!!!) in the White House people are taking an interest in things other than politics 24/7. And that's a good thing!

America went through four years of stress under Trump, never knowing what would come flying out of his ignorant, racist mouth or what stupid policy he would enact. There were plenty of arguments (look at these boards), with those who opposed him infuriated while his defenders would either duck for cover or roar to his defence.

So if the news networks are taking a hit that's the price they pay for a return to normalcy in leadership.

AND THANK GOD FOR THAT!

Beware, however, of some networks, particularly on the right wing, making controversial crap up to cause a stir in order to up their ratings. This is as predictable as the news ratings falloff.

A person can say "we" in this sense, as in a world view of the White House, without meaning that he is American. Then again, your mentality, as always, MM, is strictly of the Them Vs. Us variety, so it is no surprise that you would make such a comment.

Sneak into your country? From Canada? You've got to be kidding!

To uphold the high standards for accuracy of Uncle Walt, it's Cronkite.

This reporter has just returned from a trip to Vietnam. Sadly,  after observing the war

there he can only come to the conclusion that it's a ******* mess.
