MissPickford
Jack suggested I post this here, I hope you all like it: Have you guys checked this out: http://rudolphvalentino.org/affairsvalentino.html|http://rudolphvalentino.org/affairsvalentino.html On August 23rd, 1926 silent film star Rudolph Valentino died unexpectedly at thirty one years of age. His sudden death caused mass hysteria among his throngs of fans. They were not the only ones to mourn. Valentino's close friend and business manager, George Ullman, was left to the task of settling the "Sheik's" affairs, both business and personal. As Ullman struggled to clear Valentino's $300,000 debt ($3 million by today's monetary standards), he found himself mired in a web of shady characters, antagonistic Valentino family members and power hungry movie moguls. Little did George Ullman know that his involvement in settling "Rudy's" business affairs would change his life forever. However Affairs Valentino is not only the story of George Ullman. Fifteen years in the making, author Evelyn Zumaya uncovered never before seen documents, business accounts and Ullman's lost personal memoir. This new information contributed to a drastically changed version of Rudolph Valentino' s life story than the one that is known today. Was he gay? Was he straight? Was he a brute or bookworm? Why did he really come to America? Zumaya answers these questions and more. Zumaya faced fierce opposition in bringing this book to publication. Risking her own safety and even death threats from Valentino cultists, Zumaya remained determined to share the true documented facts of Rudolph Valentino's story. 585 pages long, with 66 pages of references and 59 never before seen photos, the long-awaited Affairs Valentino has finally arrived to set the standard for authoritative Hollywood biography. Bronxgirl48
metsie, grazie mille!!! So the old woman didn't think Rudy was very hot, huh? What did she know, probably only a kid at the time, ha! Then again, as Valentino once said, his countrymen, however proud they were of his success, basically regarded him as just another Italian. (he used another word) I thought she was going to bop the interviewer, too, lol. Wow, another Rudy photo with the baby camel! I wouldn't mind at all if he brought this little sweetheart along to the villa. (the management might raise a protest, but after all, it's Rooooody) What do baby camels eat? Rudy would have warmed some milk up and fed he/she, then made sure the camel was settled in before turning to ME. Yes, Rudy's papa was a vet. (treated horses, mostly) Can't thank you and Jackie enough! Edited by: Bronxgirl48 on Jun 13, 2011 11:51 PM

Bronxgirl48
I will be leaving for the Naples loft villa this winter, and plan to tell the management that Rooooody will be bringing the baby camel. Something strange and inexplicable happened to me this evening at school. First, I must tell you that I read an account of Valentino's ghost -- a guard was in Rudy's old studio, locking things up. The guard saw a man appear inside the studio,, and when the guard told the man, who looked like Rudy, that the place was shutting down for the night, Rudy tipped his hat and walked through a wall. Our lights were not working in the corridor. I walked to my classroom, it was dark, and saw a MAN STEPPING TOWARDS ME. HE TIPPED HIS HAT -- I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP -- SAID "HELLO, TEACHER", THEN TURNED IN THE OTHER DIRECTION AND I DIDN'T SEE HIM AGAIN. Now, he appeared shorter than Rudy, and had a Spanish accent, and he had a cap, not any kind of a top hat. I'm still flabbergasted. Was this Rudy's way of letting me know he's still around? Rudy often tipped his hat, you can see it many times in the videos -- he looks very charmingly Old World when he does it. Did he want to take some more English lessons? Bronxgirl48
I just found out that Loretta Young, at eight years old, was an extra in THE SHEIK. She said Rudy was very kind to her and the other kids, letting them sit on his horse. Young played an Arab child. I understand Myrna Loy was discovered by either Valentino himself or his second wife Natacha Rambova. Myrna remembers Rudy as a sweet and gentle man,. I'm...Uhmmmm....okay. Now let's talk about this. Did you eat some pickles and ice cream and then think you saw Valentino? "Wow, another Rudy photo with the baby camel! I wouldn't mind at all if he brought this little sweetheart along to the villa. What do baby camels eat? Rudy would have warmed some milk up and fed he/she, then made sure the camel was settled in before turning to ME." I refuse to believe you would play second fiddle to a camel. The upside is that once he's finished with the camel you get to set a nice hot bath for Rudy. "My favorite Italian song. I think Rudy would have liked it a lot." "AL DI LA" is a beautiful song and Suzanne Pleshette looked great!! I took this picture when I was at the film festival. Who knew I'd be talking about him with you guys: Yup...I took the picure. metsfan
Adorable pic of the camel, Bronxie! Thanks for the info on Loretta and Myrna, I had no idea they knew Rudy. Regarding your experience at school, I don't know how you stayed calm. I would have freaked out to have someone pop out of nowhere (dead or alive) in the dark and say something. Thanks for sharing your pic, Cinemavin. I would like to go someday to check out my favorite stars but at the same time I'm angered by the fact that Raul Julia is not included. How could a man that excelled in theater, television and human rights be ignored? Even the Rugrats (cartoon) have a star in Hollywood. It just makes me upset. Sorry I had to rant. CineMaven
Raul Julia. WoW!! He was a very good compelling actor. I'm not sure how the nominating of a star's...star, goes. But I'm sure it's an oversight. He's a name that's kind of forgotten by the public; actors I'm sure remember him. Maybe all Raul neeeds is a petition. As I walked the Walk of Fame in Hollywood, I saw many names of the greats...and then the obscure...and then the ridiculous.

Jackie originally posted that photo of Rudy with the (smiling) baby camel, then, when you uploaded your SECOND one with him and the camel, I thought wow, I've got to see them all at once! Maybe we can find even MORE pix of Rudy and the camel in various sweet poses! He loved animals so much.... I'm convinced Valentino made that student tip his hat to let me know he appreciates our discussions of him. I wasn't scared at all. It's funny, as soon as the little guy took off the cap, I immediately thought of Rudy and knew a message had been sent, lol. In his book of poetry, Day Dreams, there is a section on "Babies". I'd love to read it, wouldn't you? Poor Rudy had no kids of his own. I was perusing a Valentino photo gallery and there's what's obviously a family shot of who I think is his brother Alberto and wife. Rudy has his arms around what must be his young nephew, who looks remarkably like Rudy as a boy. Bronxgirl48
No, my "ghost" wasn't Rudy -- too short, and with a pronounced Spanish accent, but it WAS Valentino sending me a message, I just know it, ha! Like he sent one to you, telling you to photograph his Hollywood star, for all of us to see.
