Bronxgirl48
That's Alain? I guess I thought he lived hard and died very, very young. Also, I connect him with black-and white movies, so that color image was disconcerting, ha! This is how I remember Delon:
Bronxgirl48
Rudolph Valentino doll, as Julio in THE FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE. He's sitting the tango out. I love how they got Rudy's long, beautiful hands just right!
Bronxgirl48
THE SHEIK doll. I don't know, it looks like a cross between Molly Goldberg and Madonna.
CineMaven
Yup, this is just about how I remember him, too. Oh he's still alive. But he does look much older though. As for those Rudy dolls...they look rather frightening.
Bronxgirl48
Yes, the dolls are kind of creepy in a Twilight Zone sort of way, like they'd come into your bedroom and kill you -- but not with love. This one looks like a Wong Foo Patrick Swayze: (why are these photos not instantly appearing as they usually are, instead of you all having to click on the site first? I haven't been doing anything differently...) Edited by: Bronxgirl48 on Jun 26, 2011 7:05 AM
CineMaven
And Bronxie...you are dead-on (as usual) about the resemblance between Gertrude Berg and that frightening Rudy doll. One only has to look at the photos below: Ha! Some Rudy doll. Mother of the Sheik "YoooHooo!!! Oh Mr. Sheik-y!!!"
Bronxgirl48
****!!!!!!!!!! A little chicken soup for Rudy. And now YOU'RE able to upload photos, while I'm screwing up, ha! Can you post an early '80's Madonna, with her heavy caterpillar eyebrows, lol? That will make the composite doll complete to my bizarre eyes. CineMaven
*(why are these photos not instantly appearing as they usually are, instead of you all having to click on the site first? I haven't been doing anything differently...)* As I was recently taught by the great Rohanaka, put an exclamation point before and after the address...and you'll get this: !http:/www.newbreen.com/Documents/anb_valentino_sheik_doll_cu.jpg! You haven't been doing anything differently, it's just that the Board "upgrade" stinks to high heaven! P.S. BTW, those creepy sheik-y dolls are killing my buzzzz! Bronxgirl48
I tried those exclamation points but it doesn't work. Also, I can't find the Quote icon.... I need some sleep. Hey, I just had a thought -- Rudy as Nicky Arnstein! Wait, that wouldn't really work, he'd have been 73 years old....
CineMaven
I didn't find one of Madonna that I liked, but will you accept Daughter Of Madonna? As for Valentino, I think he was perfectly of his time.
Bronxgirl48
Heavens, ha! Is that a new fashion statement Lourdes is making? The thing that fascinates about Valentino is actually how modern he is! This I really feel is the secret to his continued allure and appeal. The first male sex-symbol, hounded by screaming fans, cursed as well as blessed by his fame, etc., it all feels very contemporary..

Bronxgirl48
Did you watch THE COMPANY SHE KEEPS last night? I swear it looked like John Cromwell was doing a follow-up to CAGED. I don't think I've ever seen a more accommodating parole officer than Lizabeth Scott. She takes Greer out for dinner and then offers up boyfriend Dennis O'Keefe. Wait a minute, maybe Liz knew what she was doing.... Edited by: Bronxgirl48 on Jun 26, 2011 1:47 PM
metsfan
Barb, congrats on making 14,000! Rudy was busy reading all your fan mail. Here's an image that caught my attention. You're all killing me this afternoon! I can't contain the laughter, thanks. Here's a cute doll that stands and looks like Rudy. They even got the eyebrows correct! The doll definitely has attitude. Bronxgirl48
Ciao bella, metsie! Sei meravigliosa! (correct this if I'm mucking it up) Grazie molte! Wow, where'd you find that Sheik doll photo? The eyes at least look like they've got some life to them, lol. The nostrils are good, too! I'm not sure Rudy can read the mail with his bad eyes, lol. (would you get in a car with him? The only way I would is if we stopped at Lover's Lane. That is, if he was even ABLE to stop, bless his sweet myopia and speed-demon tendencies) I love THE HOODED FALCON test costume. Unfortunately, this film never came to fruition, along with others supposedly in the works such as QUO VADIS and ROMEO AND JULIET. Bronxgirl48
Let's see if I can upload this photo of Rudy cavorting with Pola Negri. (He almost looks like a modern Hollywood bad-boy Brat Packer here) <http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_mLZL8lT830I/TQM9vv7ORaI/AAAAAAAAAHY/No5Xg7csIT0/s1600/pool.jpg> Edited by: Bronxgirl48 on Jun 26, 2011 9:35 PM
Bronxgirl48
Candid from SON OF THE SHEIK. Love Rudy's sweet, mischevious smile. metsfan
Prego amica mia! The only way I would get into a car with him is if I had a helmet and a padded suit. lol The same goes for James Dean. I can only imagine the fun it would've been to drive fast with those two. The Lenci doll was mentioned in a blog dealing with collectables. It's in the 2009 archive along with a Sheik doll. I have to say the hair scares me on that one. Maybe the turban was lost after a day of camel riding in the hands of a little girl. Enjoy! http://rudolph-valentino.blogspot.com/search?updated-min=2011-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-06%3A00&updated-max=2012-01-01T00%3A00%3A00-06%3A00&max-results=
JackFavell
I think the doll looks like Louis Hayward dressed up as Valentino. That blog is excellent, I've fouind a lot of great info and pics there. Rudy looks like Dino in that pic with the ciggie... Bronxgirl48
HA! Yeah, the hair on that Sheik doll was very weird, it reminded me a bit of Edward Scissorhands, but without the charm. What really blows me away on that fantastic link you provided is Rudy's own SELF-PORTRAIT: <img srchttp://1.bp.blogspot.com/_QdezS4StITI/Szwsc99v4NI/AAAAAAAAAI8/Bgg5uVzqG4c/s1600-h/selfportraithand+signed.jpg=> If this is how Valentino saw himself, it's kind of creepy actually, lol. It's like the face of an enigmatic little King Tut or something. Edited by: Bronxgirl48 on Jun 26, 2011 8:54 PM
