CineMaven
Ha! THAT was the vision that was in my head when I went to bed at three this morning. < Sigh! > Did you see "Luxury Liner"? I had to get Lauritz Melchior out of my head.

Bronxgirl48
I started watching PLEASE BELIEVE ME last night. Had no idea Val Lewton produced this.\ Robert Walker, looking and acting uncomfortably like Bruno Anthony, really creeped me out. As Robert was talking to Deborah Kerr, his hands were constantly in motion; I honestly thought he was going to reach out and strangle her. Then I mercifully fell asleep. JackFavell
Hey, Bronxetta, I see you were up late last night! I am looking forward to watching Rudy tomorrow. I missed Kismet and Chandu, darn it! I couldn't make it past Dream Wife....gak... though Deborah's costumes were great.
JackFavell
WHere did you find PLease Believe Me? I don't know it, but I love Val.
CineMaven
My father found out there is an outage in the neighborhood. So no tv. I've gotta get out of this house then but I thought I schmooze around the Board a little. That color photograph of Rudy in the Sheik is even *MORE* gorgeous in black & white. And it will be going up on my wall. In the meantime, I don't know if I'd waste Steve Cochran in the kitchen scrambling my eggs. He could really just...scramble my eggs. JackFavell
Sorry to hear about your power outage.... That's a shame! I hope you have lots of things to occupy yourself...I just found this odd Jack LaRue movie, though it might not be your cup of tea... it's a feud western. He's still kinda sexy - why don't the girls go for him in his movies? Just because he's sleazy doesn't mean he isn't worth a little attention. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7ahQiAqFEI
CineMaven
These goils, too hoity toity. They can't take the sleaze factor. He doesn't have classic good looks. He's a touch on the simian side. But don't get me wrong, JackaaaAaay. I love him...I love him...I love him. Thanks for the YouTube cite. I'll see about giving it a looksee. JackFavell
It's only an hour long, so it really isn't too much to watch.... and it's directed by Henry Hathaway, so it's purty.
JackFavell
Here's another movie for you to watch, should you need stimulus - Holiday with Ann Harding:
CineMaven
Thank you for the ANN HARDING version of "Holiday." I've only seen Hepburn's. I just watched Harding in "The Right to Romance" the other day. Thanxx! I'm a fan of hers. And yours...
Bronxgirl48
> <<<Hey, Bronxetta, I see you were up late last night!>>> I couldn't go to sleep because I've got these industrial sized FANS on extracting water from the kitchen pipe leak, and this drying process is creating a lot of heat and humidity in my apartment, even with the a/c on <<<I am looking forward to watching Rudy tomorrow.>>>> Oh, I hope you can stay up! <<<<I missed Kismet and Chandu, darn it! I couldn't make it past Dream Wife....gak... though Deborah's costumes were great.>>>> DREAM WIFE -- blech!!! Could this be Cary's worst film? I lost interest in KISMET, even with Ronald. Marlene should never be photographed in color. I was very uneasy with PLEASE BELIEVE ME. from the little I saw. Now that I think about it, I wouldn't have minded Robert strangling Deborah, because she was kind of annoying trying to be "comedic". I saw Peter Lawford's tanned face pass before my eyes before falling asleep. Edited by: Bronxgirl48 on Jul 20, 2011 7:36 PM
JackFavell
No. Cary's worst film was on a couple of weeks ago - *Once Upon a Time*, from 1944. Cary is a promoter who needs a big break, and finds it in the form of a dancing caterpillar. I recorded it, then threw the disc away, it was that bad. CineMaven
Cary's worse film has got to be those he made with Betsy Drake. Cary is dashing, handsome, can do comedy or drama. He is a Star. But I gotta tell ya, I cannot take him in the 50's other than a few films (Hitchcock). But "Crisis" "Room for One More" "Monkey Business")... ACK!!! I have NO television reception and I'm feeling anxious and b*tchy!@#$%@!

Bronxgirl48
Jackie, I passed out just watching this video. Someone hydrate me, please.
CineMaven
Hydrate you? Don't you have leaking pipes in your apartment now already? Hey Bronxette, have you been sufficiently revived by this morning? No doubt Rudy was gorgeous. I kind of felt sorry for the old biddy who was making the moves on him. (Kind of). But like the song goes "never gonna get it, never gonna get it." I liked how he deflected her touch by scooting out from under her hand. But what was up with that driving thumping disco beat the poster laid underneath? Eeeew. Distracting. Rudy really favored George Raft in this clip.
JackFavell
That was hilarious! Rudy was really becoming a great actor.... I loved the part where he is standing outside the palace, all the horses take off, and the guardsman comes up and says ' If she wants you at six, that means supper, not Siberia'. Rudy's look was - I can't quite read it, maybe a bit of curiosity, fear for his job and something else - hurt ? Nothing quite so clearcut as that, but something sad and uncomfortable, maybe a little bit of shame at being at the beck and call of so mercurial a mistress? Anyway, I found it fascinating.
