JackFavell
If you do rent the Notebook, make sure you have an entire box of kleenex at your side. It's not the most accurate depiction of the 1940's, but it makes up for it in sincerity.
CineMaven
I'm definitely going tomorrow to see the film. I had it on my list. I'd better get thee to a multiplex. Julianne can do comedy and go deep in dramatics. I've got to get to Yonkers. Look up some kissin' cousins of Bronxie's. 1980...I'm not ashamed to --lie-- say it...I was in the second grade. Bwaaaaahhhhaaaaaahaaaaaaahaaaaahaaaaaahaaaahaaaaaa+!+ Bronxie, Ryan Gosling is like Raoul Bava only he doesn't have an accent.
JackFavell
Hey, speaking of Italian men, today is my Joe's birthday! He's one hundred and fourteen years old. Closer to my age than Ryan.
Bronxgirl48
THE NOTEBOOK isn't going to be like that movie, what's the name of it....ATONEMENT? You know, all period detail, faux-nostalgia, ultra-weepy, arch sophistication in a Masterpiece Theatre sort of way? (all of which I like, up to a point) What, nobody likes Raoul Bova???? Look at him, mama mia!!!
CineMaven
AAAAAaaaaaah Joe. He probably has more Calleia in his little finger than all of these young guys have in their whole body. Now here is MY gold standard. This is how he appeared in "300" with Gerard Butler:
JackFavell
Aye yi yi, I LOVE Raoul Bava! I'm just saying Ryan Gosling has the same effect on me. No it's nothing like Atonement. Thank goodness. bleccch. It's more of a modern period piece. I thought I would not like it, everyone told me to see it... so I fought against it. The forties stuff doesn't quite look forties, but the acting is very good. It's a little like a Lifetime movie, but better, thanks to the good casting. Bronxgirl48
> Bronxie, Ryan Gosling is like Raoul Bava only he doesn't have an accent. I need the accent! MANY HAPPY RETURNS OF THE DAY, JOE! He looks good for his age, Jackie!
JackFavell
That picture is scary! I'm sorry but he frightens me. Who is he? That's not Paul Rudd is it?
CineMaven
What, nobody likes Raoul Bova???? Look at him, mama mia!!! Sorry I didn't respond. I got stunned by Joseph Calleia and his knowing knowing ways. I like Raoul Bova. I saw and loved "UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN." I thought I remembered reading around these parts that that was a chick flick. (I love Diane Lane...and I thought she was a lucky lucky girl to have Raoul as her love interest). That picture is scary! I'm sorry but he frightens me. Who is he? That's not Paul Rudd is it? :-) Sorry to have scared you Jackaaaay. My gold standard is a young Italian actor too. Below you will see how he looked when he went to audition for the role of the evil XERXES in "300."

Bronxgirl48
You and Joe have a wonderful time celebrating his birthday. Here is a beautiful Maltese repast, complete with view, just for the two of you. Wait a minute, did you mention Lifetime T.V. in re: THE NOTEBOOK. Uh-oh, lol. MAVE, who is the chained hunk? Looks a bit like Tony Curtis, our street urchin! No one "does it" for me like Raoul. I've sworn off American men. Yonkers isn't what it used to be. There was a Carvel (run by Kent Smith) near my cousins' house, and the area was wooded and charming.
JackFavell
Oh my gosh, thanks Bronxie! That's beautiful! Oh la la, the view is spectacular! Joe will love it. Is it in Malta? It's even more gorgeous than any of the places I already looked up.

CineMaven
Yonkers isn't what it used to be. There was a Carvel (run by Kent Smith) near my cousins' house, and the area was wooded and charming. Wooded and charming? Sounds like Hansel and Gretel. Last I heard, Kent Smith was here...on the corner of Warren and Greenwich Streets in TriBeCa: I braved it and went up to Kent (Mister Softee) Smith, and ordered a cool cone. And Bronxie - l'll raise your Mizrahi... And give you --cooties...-- Uhmmmm, I meant Clooney.

Bronxgirl48
Good morning. That photo of Ali looks about 30 years old. Not that I've aged since then. Here is an excellent video biography of Valentino, which will be of interest to all film buffs.
