scottman1932
Glad to hear it! B-) This also means that your board name is also not an ironic one!
SansFin
I thank you for those kind words JackFavell and Scottman. It has not been easy. My status here is as a worker. They are not happy that my primary employer is also my fiance. That is a common ruse used by mail-order brides to circumvent the law. They are not happy also that I have been going to school. That is a different classification and status. I think I would be lost if it were not for wonderful lawyers who know well the maze of regulations. I am looking forward to the day when I am a citizen here and there is not the threat of having to go back.

SansFin
I thank you for the kind words, lzcutter. I hope my occasional humor and recipes balances out that I can rarely contribute to deep discussions of movies.
JackFavell
We'll all be keeping our fingers crossed that you get your citizenship soon, Sansfin. And if you ever need anyone to vouch for you....count on me.

You are not getting rid of me easily! >>>> How wonderful, Sans! You're an asset to this board! I'll be back this evening to answer everyone's posts re: FORBIDDEN GAMES, Joan Collins, Bela, Boris, etc. My mother had a scare yesterday -- outside her condo complex, a bird swooped menacingly down at her head, and Mom said the Hitchcock movie came uncomfortably to mind. She said the creature seemed oddly "cheerful". Edited by: Bronxgirl48 on Apr 20, 2012 4:29 PM
JackFavell
Yikes! Is it nesting season down there? We've had incidents of bird attacks here when they build their nests too close to human homes or activities. Or it could just be the beginning of their revenge. And if you ever need anyone to vouch for you....count on me. I thank you for your kind words. It will be some time before I can be a citizen. I must be here for a full five years before I apply and then it is an one-and-one-half year process. The approval I now have allows me to stay my fifth year. There are ways for it to be faster. They come with odd restrictions and I might not qualify at some point. The lawyers say it is better to follow the most basic and simple method even although it takes the longest. That I am technically still an employee of a foreign government does not make it easier. I thank you for your offer to vouch for me. I do not know what you could say other than that I am a nut. It is rare that I am considered an asset. I have been an A.S.S.. It was a position where I researched technical issues prior to hearings. The full term was: Arbitration Support Specialist. Bronxgirl48
"It's the end of the world!" I don't know about nesting season, but our feathered "friends" down here are certainly in perversely entertaining moods. I actually saw something that resembled an emu sprint across the street from one of our local delis. It looked like Goldie Hawn. Bronxgirl48
So moira -- Rudy, Ricardo and Bela aren't your cup of tea. Tell me, who does it for you -- Charles Ray? LOL. I should talk - yours truly is a girl with a serious Nelson Eddy fixation. As for Boris, he had his romantic moments for me in THE MUMMY. I actually found myself attracted to Ardeth Bey. I could love a man like that, even with the dust of 3,000 years all over him. Edited by: Bronxgirl48 on Apr 27, 2012 9:48 PM

I'm telling you, Florida has only one season, and it's called "Weird". Sorry to have vanished, but I've been fighting a stubborn cold. I did manage to watch PICTURE MOMMY DEAD. Oh what a dee-light! "The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out...." I just love Zsa Zsa in this, as well as Martha Hyer's evil left eyebrow. Then there's marble-mouthed Wendell Corey, who looked like death warmed over. Don Ameche gives this cheesy material dignity. Edited by: Bronxgirl48 on Apr 28, 2012 11:09 AM
Bronxgirl48
Mom doesn't do well with critters. Just the other day one of our ubiquitous little lizards skittered into her apartment, and she thought it was going to crawl all over her in bed that night. I told her to substitute an image of Bill Holden or Clark Gable.
Bronxgirl48
Oooh, now I want to see DARK PLACES and FEAR IN THE NIGHT. I've never see Joan Collins in a soap, but I love her in these crummy British horror movies, lol. She seems to have a sense of humor about herself, which I appreciate. You and Jackie make beautiful observations on FORBIDDEN GAMES. I wonder if this movie influenced Truffaut on some level. There is a scene in FG where Michel, frustrated and upset, is cursing furiously, and it reminded me of equally neglected/ill-used Antoine's blue-streak outburst in THE FOUR HUNDRED BLOWS. Bronxgirl48
I love your exquisite take on FORBIDDEN GAMES, Jackie. During the course of the film, I began to feel even sorrier for Michel than Paulette. As for Joan Collins, I always liked her. She never seemed to take herself all that seriously. Not a big talent, but for some reason I enjoy listening to that distinctive accent -- I can always tell it's her if I'm not directly in front of my television set. Everyone in THE DEVIL WITHIN HER gives a terrible performance, including the baby, lol. Donald Pleasance tells a well-educated Italian nun that he's amazed she can speak perfect English. (although she does keep calling Collin's spawn "the day-vil") Joan squeals, pants, grunts, and shrieks her way throughout. I can live without frog-faced Deborah Walley in GIDGET GOES HAWAIIAN. Makes one yearn for the embryonic blonde gooey warmth of Sandra Dee as the original girl-midget. Bronxgirl48
Lynn, here's hoping next week will be better for you. Mine probably won't be (ah, c'est la vie, lol) what with possible jury duty and then finding out if scarfing down two bowls a day of Irish oatmeal has improved my LDL cholesterol. (what fun being a Baby Boomer) Just found ONE MAN'S POISON on YouTube. I didn't catch it on TCM, but frankly can never get past Gary Merrill's perpetual five o'clock shadow. I think I did see this years ago and remembered that Emlyn Williams, who I normally love, had the most annoyingly arch part as an incredibly nosy neighbor. If I remember correctly, he plays a country vet who fancies himself an expert in human behavior. Just stick to your horses and chickens, bub! Mom said she hard a hard time differentiating between Pat and Katie in A STOLEN LIFE: "Which twin married Glenn Ford?", which I didn't exactly understand, but I told her that skilled Bette (and the script) didn't portray the "good" sister as some drab, unattractive social misfit, but a quietly charismatic person in her own right, even if distracted, obtuse Glenn (just like every other man but more so, lol) couldn't appreciate these qualities until it was almost too late. MissGoddess
Buona sera, Senora Bronxita (I didn't sleep much so to me it's still evening, lol), I like hairy Gary! He's very good in *The Wonderful Country*, and Bob Mitchum is the one in need of a shave...and a bath...in that one. Bronxie, how does Mom like your new villa? I've been meaning to ask what she thinks of the new look. Edited by: MissGoddess on Apr 28, 2012 12:30 PM
SueSueApplegate
Well, Miss "Bumpy Ride" Bette must have seen something she liked. Sans, HA X 2! I've been wondering the same thing, Miss G, and hope the Bronxster is having a wonderful life. So what's the scoop, Bronxie, dear Building and Loan Pal? Is there enough closet space for those Ruby slippers? Did Mrs. Blandings really build her dream abode?
