lzcutter
> When you watch a movie with Franchot Tone, do your sweet turtles pull their little heads in? The oldest baby loves to watch tv. She likes movies with George. But I think Franchot would scare her. Hell, he scares me most of the time. If you ever get the chance, watch *I Love Trouble*. Glenda Farrell steals the move from Tone and she's great as his wise-cracking, long suffering secretary. Instead of George, will this guy do:
Bronxgirl48
Lynn, you must be psychic! Do you know who I was drooling over the other day? Antonio Banderas in EVITA. I like to clean my apartment to a good musical score; unfortunately nothing got done because I kept stopping to look at him. I just found the entire I LOVE TROUBLE on YouTube, and will watch it soon! lzcutter
Barb, He's very good (and drool-worthy) in *Evita*. I saw Mandy Patinkin in the role on stage at the Dorothy Chandler in the City of Brake Lights along with Patty LaPone a thousand years ago and didn't think anyone else could do that role as well. I was wrong. Antonio is also wonderful in *The Mask of Zorro*. Both that and *Evita* are favorites of mine and MrCutter.
JackFavell
I think you are the psychic one, B, because I have been looking for I Love Trouble! Thanks for mentioning it's on youtube. Now if you can find me Wild Girl and The Yellow Ticket, I'll be happy. I love Franchot as an actor, turtle face and all, but man! NO ONE should stand next to Clark Gable with his shirt off. It's just not going to be a good comparison. Doug Jr. swoon. love those moustaches. Elephant Walk is so outrageous, I love it! Elizabeth is THE most beautiful in it, and that house! Golly, it's purty. Till the elephants come for tea. I still don't know how anyone could pick Finch over Dana. And where does it take place? I missed the first few minutes, and kept trying to figure out the native garb. India or Africa, courtesy of Hollywood, USA. I loved that gold necklace that the servant wore on his head, back to front. Cool! They were Indian elephants I think. I thought the whole day was supposed to be Africa pictures? Bronxgirl48
Mandy Patinkin, lol. Remember those Broadway Evita t.v. ads from the '80's? "Not much to ASK for!" I immediately took a dislike to Mandy just from watching this.
Bronxgirl48
ELEPHANT WALK is on YouTube, although frankly I don't think it's even worth a first look by anyone who's never seen it. I don't know why they didn't just go ahead and cast Olivier, Fontaine, Anderson, et. al. for this torpid Rebecca-in-Ceylon (or Burma? maybe the programmers thought it was Africa, lol) potboiler, so obvious are the comparisons. Abraham Sofaer as Appuhamy is the Mrs. Danvers part, lol. When Liz finally gets a chance to slip into The General's old room, I half expect her to find Tom Wiley's initials on the bed pillows, with Appuhamy lovingly describing all of TW's jockey shorts -- "Look, mistress, have you ever seen such a beautiful selection of Hanes?" I must admit that, even though I'm partial to Finch over Andrews in the looks department, I would have grabbed Dana and run away with him to Paris. But I do like those British colonial tea plantations, interior design-wise, although I'm always imagining pythons slithering in, like Emma or Old Joe. rohanaka
Ms Cutter.. is that pic of AB from Zorro?? I am not a huge fan of his for some of his movies.. but oh me, how I do love him in that one. (swoon) Oopsie.. editing my post. I see now later in the thread where you mention it.. but that's ok because ha.. gave me one more chance to just come in here and say Oh me.. I do love AB in TMOZ.. did I mention "swoon"?? Edited by: rohanaka on Jul 4, 2012 6:05 PM
rohanaka
I immediately took a dislike to Mandy Oh.. but without Mandy.. there would be no INIGO. (we love him around here.. he's a family favorite)
lzcutter
> Ms Cutter.. is that pic of AB from Zorro?? It is, indeed. It's a very fun swashbuckler of a movie and Anthony Hopkins is quite good in it as well. Catherine Zeta-Jones had her breakthrough role in the film. Bronxgirl48
Wow, Mandy actually looks handsome in that clip! I thought it was Kevin Kline at first, lol.
Bronxgirl48
Are WILD GIRL and THE YELLOW TICKET both Raoul Walsh films? I think Boris Karloff and Olivier are in the latter. Unfortunately they're not on YouTube. I can't find any info on WG. TYT sounds intriguing. Edited by: Bronxgirl48 on Jul 4, 2012 6:39 PM
Bronxgirl48
Hey, you're familiar with that Nasonex commercial, right? Have you ever wondered why the bumblebee sounds so familiar? It's Antonio!
rohanaka
I thought it was Kevin Kline at first Are you telling me you have never seen The Princess Bride???????????????????? (say it isn't SO!!) All issues of Mandy aside, you must, must, must check it out, little missy, ha.. if only for the OTHER great performances. OH me.. It is one of my all time favorite "fairy tale/swashbuckler" adventure films. It has a little something for everyone... action, romance, adventure,(and is hilarious to boot.. because it does NOT take itself too seriously) Not to mention there is the whole side bit with the sweet story behind the story.. Peter Falk playing a grandpa reading the book to his sick grandson. I hope you will look past your "lack of love" for Mandy and give it a try sometime, youngun. PS, Ms Cutter.. RE: TMOZ.. Swashbuckling is a GREAT way to say it. And you are right about Hopkins and Jones too.. this is one of my fave movies for both of them too.. and that's saying a lot for Hopkins.. I have several fave films for him. But I think he does a really great job as Zorro (the first) But OH that AB.. Bronxie.. I'll take him as a swashbuckling "Legendary" sword wielding hero over a nasal spray selling BEE any day.. ha.
Bronxgirl48
My favorite Zorro of all time is Guy Williams! I don't like the "updating" even with Antonio. Why are Zeta's bazongas all over the place? I hate that, lol. Give me the old-fashioned charms of the Disney t.v. program. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cgr2h-D7sGE&feature=related I've never seen THE PRINCESS BRIDE; in fact, I've avoided it over the years. Not exactly sure why. Antonio, my little Spanish bee baby! I wish he'd buzz around me. Edited by: Bronxgirl48 on Jul 5, 2012 12:34 AM
rohanaka
Zeta's ___ all over the place Ha.. well, I do admit they show up now and then Fortunately they are MOSTLY covered.. and only really show up at certain moments in the movie.. ha. El Zorro stands out more for me than her.. whatever it was you called them. HA. And I really like the action and "FX" stuff in this one. too. Its just a fun movie. But I confess.. we all have our favorites, so we don't always have to see eye to eye. I was never a big fan of the Disney one.. so you get Guy.. and Ms Cutter and I will watch AB.. ha... to each her own. ha

I was hoping with your youtube skills you might find them where I didn't. I can't help it, I love Elephant Walk. I don't care if it's Rebecca or not, though I admit I never really noticed it before. I just love the color, and Liz's dresses, all except the red and white striped number, and the way it's filmed. The final elephant stampede makes me laugh though, but I still find it exciting. Bronxgirl48
and[/i]Taylor.jpg] The French version: The fact I don't think ELEPHANT WALK is a good movie never stops me from watching it, though, lol. It's just part of my childhood, and I can't give it up. Good old Appuhamy: "To the General!" Hey, do you notice Mr. Shellhammer from Macy's is one of Tom Wiley's acolytes, still making the martinis triple strength. I'll keep looking for those Walshes -- one never knows with YouTube, they just might show up. rohanaka
Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die Miss Cutter.. I like what he says at the end of that moment just before he finally gets to realize his goal.. when the 6 fingered man says he'll give him whatever he wants.. and he says "Iwant my father.." Now THAT was a great moment. I tear up big time when he confronts his nemesis I make it all the way to the end of the movie ok..until the Grandpa says "As you wish." Gets me everytime. PS: Jackie... Ro - I love Princess Bride. must be the iocane INCONCEIVABLE!! (that's one of my fave bits, by the way) My fave line in the whole movie... "Mahwidge is wott bwings us togebber today." And as I type w/ one hand.. as a side note.. I will just add,, Happy 4th to all.. but stay safe out there tonight folks... .. those dadgum SPARKLERS sure do get hot when they light up... alas. Bronxgirl48
Me, too. But there was a film where Liz had her hair very short, in almost a pixie cut, and I didn't think it was at all flattering. (might have been THE LAST TIME I SAW PARIS) Please tell me why they made beautiful Natalie wear that atrocious 'do in CASH McCALL.
JackFavell
I never noticed Mr. Shelhammer! You are good! I just noticed Dick Powell's boss Harry Hayden from *Christmas in July* is the doctor who looks after George's father Walter Huston right before he dies in *Yankee Doodle Dandy.* he's the guy who says, "I always thought that Josie Cohan was the most lovely dancer I'd ever seen" and "I can't help thinking an era is passing." ro- "Have fun storming da castle!"
