redriver
I love those "What's My Line?" shows, and I'm amazed at the huge stars who appeared on it I saw a cute collection of clips from the show. Jack Benny entered, signing his name, Heifetz. A panelist asked Gary Cooper, "Do you ride tall in the saddle, kick pebbles and say, Yup?" His response: Yup! My favorite was Martin and Lewis. THEY'LL NEVER GUESS WHO WE ARE NOW, DEAN!
JackFavell
Thanks for the tip, redriver. That Jack Benny one is hilarious! The response he got from the audience made my heart glad. And I think he was rather sexy. Not as sexy as Gorge Raft in that clip from Bolero.... but... then who is?
CineMaven
"I like Chloe, too. I love METROPOLITAN! Developed a strange crush on Chris Eigeman. There's one thing that always freaks me out about this movie, though -- the actress who plays Tom's mother looks unnervingly like Piper Laurie in CARRIE." I thought Piper Laurie was sexy crazy in "CARRIE" with her wild redhair and crazy eyes. She, too, has a great voice. A movie that reminded of the style of "Metropolitan" and "Barcelona" that I really liked was called "TADPOLE." "When I first saw the opening credits, I couldn't figure out if it was made in Italy, Turkey, or Timbucktu, and what in heck was William Shatner doing speaking in anything other than English? I didn't know what to make of it all -- some scenes were actually creepy and disorienting. But on the whole I mainly expected Woody Allen and Diane Keaton to show up and start arguing about love and death. (in Esperanto)" Ha!! You pegged that right Bronxie; Upper West Side/upper middle class folks coming from either the Baronet or the Coronet (or Cinema 1,2 or 3)...OR The Beekman or The Sutton, having seen an esoteric movie and using argument as foreplay. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, how I long for Woody Allen when he was funny. Oh...And yes...for the Piper Laurie reference...I know. I should be mentally committed. Or flogged. Or kiss a troll. redriver
Piper Laurie was sexy crazy in "CARRIE" In THE HUSTLER, she's sexy depressing! how I long for Woody Allen when he was funny. Poor Woody. He tries so hard. He tries too hard. But I like the two anguish/murder/guilt/ stories. CASANDRA'S DREAM is intelligent, sensitive. MATCH POINT is downright creepy. They're well written, if disturbing dramas. The man has talent. He just misplaces it. "Soon-Yi! Have you seen my talent?"

(Did you see FredMertz standing in the wings)? Fred Mertz?! Fred Mertz?! Are trying to say that there are other people in that clip besides George and Carol??? That there were other people in the room, watching that!? That's scandalous! I bet Gable was FURIOUS every time Carole said George's name.
MissGoddess
And I love METROPOLITAN and BARCELONA (Not Last Days of Disco, though). I'm with Bronxie, Chris Eigeman in those movies is cute in a sarcastic way. He has all the best lines!
MissGoddess
> Yes that's exactly how I felt about him too. If you ever get a chance, check out *Night After Night*, more than just Mae West' s debut, and she is hilarious and actually somewhat of a different character than she would ever play again; it's a very enjoyable film and Raft and the rest of the cast are great to watch in this pre-code gem. Thanks for the tip on that movie. I'll be checking George out alright. In EVERYTHING.

You know who the two most elusive stars as far as televised appearances or interviews seem to be? MGM's two biggest: Garbo and Gable.

MissGoddess
I found BOLERO on dvd at iOffer.com. So be prepared for coming attractions....if the picture quality is good enough for screencapping. This is so adorable! Look at little Rafty swing it: OH my goodness! This is so CUTE! It's even better than the "What's My Line?" appearance:
CineMaven
Here's "Snake Hips" Tucker in 1935 putting just a touch more oomph into it: Still, it's nice seeing Raft so young and loose and limber what with the 'wooden' label his acting's been given. I've always liked him.

Bronxgirl48
> bronxie - I knew I would find a place for this photo one day- > OH MY GOODNESS, HAHAHAHAHA! Look at them! Sweet little lathered-up gangsters! I'm so glad Rafty doesn't have a lot of body hair (in fact it looks like he shaves his pits) 'cause you know that's how I like my men. Georgie looks like a white rat in comparison to HIRSUTE Bogie.
Bronxgirl48
Mom: I was watching that Retroplex channel the other day and saw SWEET CHARIOT. Me: And was it Ramon Navarro or Charleton Heston opposite Shirley MacLaine? Mom: I don't know what you're talking about. Me: Never mind.

Bronxgirl48
Doesn't this look well nigh irresistible? Such authentic casting. Jayne Mansfield as Mae West and Barrie Chase as Carole Lombard. I don't know who Julie London is supposed to be as the Torch Queen, but.....Margo Moore is the Hat Check Chick! And what would a movie of this type be without the redoubtable Barbara Nichols? CineMaven
A "Twitter" kid (Justin Halpern) is getting a book deal, and a tv show based on the "stuff" his father says. You oughta look up his name on YouTube. I'm sure your Mom is more than funnier than that kid's dad... and it's about movies. Just an f.y.i. in case you don't want to wait to collect a pension. :-)
MissGoddess
SWEET CHARIOT...hahahaaa! I think CineMaven's got something there, you should really publish this stuff. That movie looks ten times tackier than even Rafty's worst of the worst. Jayne as Mae West is almost as incredible as Ray Danton as George. Bronxgirl48
But wait, Miss G. and Maven -- there's more! (I sound like an infomercial for crazy mothers) Mom popped in as I was watching "Bewitched" on the TV Land channel. Mom (a puzzled look on her face) "Is that the original show?" Me "Yes" Mom: "So it's still on?" Me: "In reruns, yes" Mom: Oh. Because I'm thinking, how could it still be going after 40 years?"
