MGM's That's Entertainment III

With the issue of Apple's iTunes 9 you now can purchase That's Entertainment III at iTunes make the 3 part set complete.

Well, that's good for some people, but for me (and I think a lot of others here) the best way to see it is with a pristine 35mm print projected on a 50 foot screen.

That'd be the best way to watch just about any classic movie, mark.

 

As for the That's Entertainment! movies, I'd settle for a remastered blu-ray set. I keep hearing the one they released some time ago just didn't do the movies justice.

I have the four disk DVD "That's Entertaiment" collection and they all sound and look fantastic.

Part III is more interesting because they had to dig up some rare footage- I specially like the Latino musical sequence.

Part III definitely benefited from all the lost footage, alternate takes, deleted numbers, etc., because even long-time fans of MGM musicals hadn't ever seen that.

 

It also has what I think is the best group of host stars of any of the That's Entertainment! movies, it was especially great to have had stars like Cyd Charisse, Gene Kelly, Lena Horne, Esther Williams, Howard Keel, Mickey Rooney and June Allyson presenting the different parts of the documentary.

 

And, like Gene Kelly says at the end, "the melody lingers on..."
